Should i buy this avant?

I wouldn't consider a high mileage auto. i've rarely heard of manual gearbox problems on VAG forums, but that isn't the case with autos. Multitronic seems particularily prone to issues & very expensive to repair. IMO you'd be crazy to take any chances.

I think you're right, the Audi multi if made of butter, and the tiptronic is only available on the 2.5tdi engine and that also seems to be made of butter too.

As much as I fancied another Audi I think I am going to go back to a BMW or Merc, just think as an older car they have LESS issues, they are far from issue free, Mercs have rust issues, and BMWs tend to like eating swirl flaps, but they are things that you can see or sort for peanuts.
The 2.5tdi I looked at had its belts down 5 years and 72k miles ago, so it would have needed that doinng, so another £600 at least, just starts getting too expensive.

As much as I would like a manual 1.9tdi I know that after a few weeks I would regret it.

Thanks for the info guys, a few things I had forgotten about Audi ownership.

That doesn't mean if I don't stumble across the right car I won't get one, but it needs to have had all these its done already.

I thought as you were also considering an older Audi posting here may have given some info you found useful too?
It was kind of said in jest. I do apologise. you guys have been helpful, im actually going to look at said car tomorrow and the one thing I know ill be looking at is the leather haha.

That's cool. Keep us posted.

Also, remember the leather can usually be brought back to life if it hasn't lost its colour.
Buy some Autoglym leather cleaner and a Meguires interior brush from Halfords and give it some serious rubbing, it will get all the dirt out of the grain and make it look matte again.

Then buy some Gliptone and get it looking like new again.

But use the Autoglym stuff first.

This was hard and shiny when I bought it, autoglym first and then Gliptone made it look like new again.

I wish I had taken before and after photos of a 10 year old 180k mile 5 series I did, only took an hour and it looked like it was a year old at most.

Also bought some dye from Funiture Clinic for that one.

Yes that was my plan. Im actually looking forward to cleaning what ever car i buy, and bringing it up to standard.
Went to look at a met grey one yesterday (which was described as immaculate) looked good in the pics too, but was not good.
Big scratch on rear bumper
rear boot strut had been ripped through the boot body
paint chip down to bare metal the size of a 1p on lower of door
a few dents on the bonnet
lower front grill hang in off
air bag light on
sun visors hanging off
rips in passenger seat
clutch judder
whiring noise when turning
But advertised as immaculate, and it was 85 miles away grrrrrrrr!!

I know, I was the same looking at Merc MLs, I would hate to see the state of some of these sellers houses if they call the cars immaculate!!

troopa , dont give up
I've spent 2 months looking for mine even gave up and started looking at higher mileage Octava VRS Estates as I was after a bit of spec. but the 170pd injector and dpf comments put me off
I even e mailed the guy about the one you posted but he wasnt very clear with answers

Then I cant belive one turned up 20 miles from me
With a good spec I think, now about to post a new thread with some questions

I bought a 51 plate c220cdi estate today.
1 owner, 110k miles.
Silver, drove like a 3 year old 30k mile car, and looked in really good condition.

He had taken it as a trade in and was asking £3200 for it, but said just make him an offer as it was cloth interior and every phone call started 'Has it got leather?'.
So he just wanted it cleared.
In the end he showed me that he had paid £2150 for it, so I said I would give him £2250 if he put 6 months tax on it.
He agreed.

I then went on ebay and bought a nice black leather interior that was mint for £300.

Now deciding what to do about bluetooth and media etc.
Thinking either Pioneer AppRadio 2 or the F940BT nav.

But think for £3000 with leather and the double din unit fitted it is a great buy. well chuffed.

After 12 Audis previously I would have liked another one, but this just seemed right.

Juat what I needed to hear at the minute mate. Having no luck with these ATM.
I know exactly what you mean about this guy I phoned him before I went to look at it today to find out the last time it had a cambelt was @82k and he's still driving it daily. He did not mention this so what else is he holding back so I thought I'm not going 120 miles for nothing.

Yeah i asked about cam belt, seeing as its described as well looked after I was expecting a quick reply but he couldnt remember if it had been done so I assumed its prob been done only once.

Have you got the autotrader app on your phone ?
The andriod ones prity good and you can save and alert to new posted cars to a very fine filter and check pistonheads.
But I found the one I picked up today just but searching Audi A4 Avant sport in google and scanning through the links !
One was to a local garage which had a basic description but the pictures suggested a good spec, the garage atmitted they dont use autotrader as its too expensive so look for local car dealer websites that would likely have part ex's in and check there stock lists

Great advice thank you. I have tried the google search and did find one with a good spec but when i called the seller and ask where about he was he just kept asking if i knew the sainsburys??? I was like im in birmingham where are you from there, turns out it was nottingham lol. Then he wasnt sure of the things i was asking about the car!! So another one left!

Cambelt is what what put me off in the end.

I hadn't thought about this when I looked on Wednesday, and wanted to take the car, however, I offered £3150 and she insisted she wanted £3200 for it. I only had £3150 on me, so I said I would call her back.

I though the climate control unit with worn buttons would be £20 on ebay, turned out as it was double din they are £2-300.
The scratchh I thought would be £150 to sort, turns out I had quotes from £400-800.
Then also thought about cambelt, advertised at 120k, when I got there she said it was 129k and when we got in it was 130800, so only 9000 miles before it was due, and then realised it was done in 2007, so due straight away. So £500-1500 depending where done I guess?
So that made it far too expensive for me.

Have Audi started using chains on their new cars?

Funny thing is, if she had just taken the £3150 on Wednesday night I would have got home and then looked at it all and thought 'Oh ******!!' As it was that £50 she was haggling over has cost her big time.
She offered it at £3k today.

Im surprised theres not a big classifieds section on this forum and i cant find any other audi forums that have classifieds. Im from the honda scenc previous and the classifieds on most honda forums is updated almost every hour with new parts, car and what not.
