Hi, I've just returned to Audi and have picked up an S4 Avant.

I'm looking to remove some of the drop off at the top end with a remap, however there are not many options available (APR, Revo, MRC are all up for consideration). I wondered if any of the forum users have already had their's remapped and if so by whom with what experience thus far?

I've used emaps etc in past but they cannot cover this cars ecu so I'm looking at the 3 tuners listed. All appear to have proven expeirence, though I'd welcome any feedback owners can provide first hand.

Thanks

Hi, although I have a pretty good tuning background of Turbo'd motors I think the real tricks with S'Charging is with the changing of the Pully's and a Map to suite and allow for the higher boost generated.

I don't thing you will gain much especially in the top end with just a Map.

I'm very interested in this too, as I'll be looking to remap my S4 when it arrives (not until November).
I've used Shark and Revo on my previous S3s and have been more than happy with both. Was quite underwhelmed with Blufin though.

Bracer, the belief is that Audi deliberately restrict top end power whether for marketing or whatever purposes. Figures such as 60bhp+ at the upper end of the rev range are not uncommon. APR are as far as I can ascertain the only UK tuners to provide a pulley option to accompany their remap, though even then, that optional increase and not nearly as signifcant an incremental gain as the remap alone.

Though of course, feedback first hand from owners with experience of any of the options would be really helpful to quanitfy the benefits beyond simple figures and plots.

I've had the APS Remap, but also had the Miltek exhaust at the same time, and it is like a different car...!

I think the BHP is something like 420+ and it certainly feels like it..........

I'm planning to go to ADI at Castle Coombe in October. I'm more than happy to take you for a spin if you're there..?

Now we're talking!

I spoke with Shark earlier, they're in the advance stages of developing a map for this car and should be available soon.
I like the idea of Shark, as I still have the STS unit from my previous S3. Which they can re-program.

JPO thanks - can you share any additional insight into how the driveability has been enhanced - both for general duty as well as when you're pushing it along. I am leaning towards APR as they have futher upgrades already in place and the further remapping would be foc to their stage 1 work.
Do you have any plans to add pulley or more modification - or do you believe what you have is enough for daily driver usage?

Hi,
All I can say is it has made the car what it probably should have been from the factory...! I found the standard car very, very boring, Now I really enjoy it..!! It's just got so much more of everything.....

No more plans to modify (going back to contract hire Co in 12 months), I've done the remap, exhaust, and brakes. The standard brakes are a bit useless, and I had the RS5 setup put on, definate improvement, but I think they tend to overheat.

Have a word with Ed at APS he knows exactly whats on my car, and I would definately reccomend them, I've had 2 years without any issues (apart from about 3 sets of RS5 disks!!) :)

Highly recommend taking the car to MRC Tuning, they remapped my car and are currently working on a stage 2 map for the B8 S4. The stage 2 includes a pulley upgrade among other things. I think their development S4 was running constant 3.5 sec 0-60 runs and 11.5 sec 1/4 miles.

All major software tuners will be able to provide some level of tune. I would go with your nearest rather than dearest. As boost cannot be changed, it is igniton timing and fuelling that will unleash the higher rpm power.

This got me thinking about what the actual perfomance of my car might be. And I found an app (called g-tac) that 'supposedly' tells you.

I hope it's accurate because 3.38 secs 0-60 is best so far (every time between 3.5 and 4.5 without trying), and 12.03secs 1/4 mile @134mph......... I think I could do better on that because my 0-60 on that go was crap..!

Sort of addictive, but you need to be careful where you do it...!! :)

Can you tell us how your car feels with mrc tune....seems to be more aggressive tune than others

They can map your car to suit your needs.
My car was mapped conservatively to help the longevity of the turbo. The torque was also dialed back as I didn't have faith in the std rods coping with over 350lbft so early in the rev range.
I've also read good things about Unicorn Custom Developments but not sure if they have cracked the new ECU's yet.

'Stasis' is an American company which is now making inroads into the UK with the Audi V6 SC engine tuning, so it may be worth looking at them as well. They have a very good reputation in the U.S, and also do complete kits of engine remap with revised suspension and brakes.

I read about their tuned V6 S/C S5 in Evo either last month or the month before ( i'm getting old ! ), and it read very well.

I'm just frustrated I had to get rid of my B8 S4 before all these products were available for it.......that was the best car I have ever owned and it was crying out for a bit more power.......sigh !!!

Hello everybody!

There's a lot of good talk in here about the 3.0TFSI platform and I'm here to add to it and offer myself as a resource if you have any questions.

Regarding the quote above, there are significant gains to be found from a stage 1 remap (without a pulley) from most major tuners. Below are the advertised gains we've come to expect from our remaps after we began offering the 3.0TFSI remap nearly four years ago. As far as I'm aware, there aren't any other companies that offer modifications past a remap, whereas APR has a pulley, an induction kit, full exhaust system and a divorced cooling kit.

APR Audi B8 S4 3.0 TFSI ECU Upgrade

Most importantly, all of these products are results of accelerated life testing through Motorsport with our B8 S4 race car, which competes in the Grand AM and--more infrequently--World Challenge series in the USA.

I suspect a lot of this is relatively new information for the UK market, so I will be following this and other threads closely to provide information and answers to your queries when needed. If you are interested in browsing our B8 S4 products, please visit the following link and check out everything with 3.0TFSI next to it. APR Product Selection

To the OP, all APR remaps offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you were to purchase our software, you could try it out for 30 days before deciding to keep it permanently. However, we rarely have returned software :)

Again, if you guys ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to write me on the forums, in a PM or by email. I can also be reached by telephone at 0845 680 3527.

Thanks Evan for the repsonse. I had indeed already considered your services - due to the upgradeable apsect of adding pulley etc later if desired.

My concern is one of warranty cover. Whilst I could likely debate the affect of any remap contributing to a afailure, it's a hassle I could equally avoid. I'm considering a TMC plug in option to test out as they also offer a 30 day warranty yet wouldn't of course mean tampering with the ECU casing if I decided it wasn't for me.

Plus, you guys are so darn expensive ;-) Forum discounts might help entice others considering?

I can understand your hesitation with regards to warranty and how it would make a warranty situation much easier. While I can't comment specifically to the quality of the TMC product, the thing that scares me about "plug-in" solutions, is that they can only block/fake signals to and from the ECU and who knows how that translates to smooth drivability and long-term reliability. Imagine you injure your ankle during a football match, rather than fixing it and allowing it to perform as intended. Numbing it allowed you to continue to play at the time, but you find after the match more damage has already been done.

ECU out/open remaps like ours and those of our competitors is a relatively painless procedure after so many years of installs. So let's take a step back and look at the worst case scenario; customers with remapped ECUs are only subject to the specific component losing its coverage by law. I've never seen a car lose its full power train warranty due to a remap. So, say your ECU goes bad; as an APR customer, we cover costs and replace the modified component deemed faulty via our products or procedures (if they were not followed). While this isn't a warranty, we do take care of our customers as best we can--especially my forum guys ;)

PM me to discuss pricing please.

Well that's that then. Thanks to Awesome having an unmissable discount at the minute and Evans persuasive & positive responses to my plethora of queries and questions ... I've purchased an APR remap and plan on coupling that with the pulley upgrade at time of install.

Now to get a hole punched in my calendar to actually get the vehicle over for the work to be performed.

Let us know how you get on with the remap. (have you had it yet?)
I really fancy a remap on my s4 and the extra torque from the pulley upgrade sounds interesting as my s4 just feels a bit lifeless at times especially low down the revs

Hey evil_scooby.
Not had remap yet - all paid for just not had the car to get it completed - full story in rants section...

Booked in with Evan's team next week though so remap and pulley planned.

I'll be sure to post some experiences as I have just tested and returned a TMC tuning box that I had hoped would tick all my boxes - but alas it was not to be.
