Hi everyone I'm new here, just looking for some help on an engine conversion for my 53 plate 8p Audi a3 1.6 petrol.
I'm looking to swap the engine and box for a turbo model engine, just wondering what engine and box will fit in. I'm aware I'll need to change the ecu, and probably be putting a 6 speed box in it, looking for a 1.8 t engine,
Just wondering if you can give me some advise on what you all think?

I'll be declaring it to the insurance, and Im good friends with a mechanic so he'll be helping me do the conversion, I've tried searching precious threads and the only replies and one has wrote have been about insurance, waste of money etc... Please can you help me out with what engine and box will fit in.

Thanks

I should imagine any of the 8p variants will fit buddy!

youll need looms too I'd think.

Might aswell stick S3 engine in :)

I have been down a similar track myself and I know its probably not what you want to hear but it will genuinely cost you much more to do the conversion than to sell up and buy the turbo model.

Im not sure if you're aware, but compared to your model, the 2.0T model has sportier seats with better bolsters, nicer steering wheel, full DIS with trip computer etc, bigger brakes, firmer suspension etc

as jpk says its cheaper to sell up and upgrade however all variants will fit that were produced with the 8p chassis

Thanks for the help, that is an option I've been looking at, it was just something to do to pass some time as Ive never done a project like this, will the engine codes matter? Or will it not so long as you have the ecu of the existing engine.
I was looking at the s3 engine but they are all the quattro engine unfortunately,
Thanks again

The S3 engine is in various cars mate, Edition 30 golf for example, which is FWD. So its do-able.

I didn't know that, a friend had one of the edition 30's, powerfull car. Would a 2002 8l engine and box fit you reckon? My friends got an engine and box with 36k on the clock? I'd love to do an old mk1 golf in the future.

Dont go backwards (no offence to the 8L's), but really?

I think in reality,

Sell up, buy a turbo car.

Or

Enjoy making a project car, and spends waaay to much money on it. But come out with the satisfaction you've made something different.

Money no issue, second one.

I'd go first...

:)

If you want to put an 8L engine in your 8P you might as well sell it and get the 8L mate lol.

All depends if your willing to spend the money to have it done properly and commint to such a build. If you can i'd get a ko3 2.0tfsi A3 and start from there. They go for quite cheap now as it wont cost soo much.

It's a big job and i'm currently gathering the remaining parts to get mine done. Could have it all in by the end of this year but decided to rebuild the engine and upgrade a few parts. I've used countless forums for researching. If i'm honest i wish i never began but seeing that i've came so far and put up with so much sh*t with the car and have most of the parts i need it would be rude not to. Plus i dont like finance so would need to save for a new car. But my advise would be save up and get a KO3 2.0tfsi GTI or A3

If you still want to get it done and need advance ask any of the below. Another good place for information and help on conversions would be over on Edition 38 there a lot of guys who have done conversion themselfs or taking it some where.

A few places that will under take an engine conversions:
JBS Autodesign
Statller
MV Developments
PSI Tuning

Have thought about which engine you would want? P.s if you want to go KO3 2.0tfsi and want more power. I'll have a KO4 turbo up for sale in a few weeks

Thanks for all the replies I was just looking at gathering some information, its something I'd love to do is an engine conversion, I'd like something different. The 8p is a nicer shape (again no offence to the 8l's - still a lovely car). As far as money's concerned I'm not made of it - I wish haha but i think I am going to do the conversion in the near future, just going to decide which engine, box and various bits, and go from there. When I do so I'll definately be posting it up on here as there isn't much on the web for it at this moment in time,

Turbo engine into the 8P you may as well buy the 2.0TFSI A3 or the S3.

If you want something a little different then look into the 1.8T engine, having not seen any within the 'scene' it would be a different approach to normal.

Either way you are looking at considerable money to do it properly as you need to take into consideration brakes, suspension etc.

If you are dead set on a 1.8T. Make sure it's a 1.8TFSI engine removed from an 8P, will make wiring it in and compatibility between ECU's far easier. Would be best to also get as much off the donor car as possible (engine bay loom/ECU/clocks/keys) Don't forget coding via diagnostics will be required too.

A bit pointless though IMO seeing as a 8P 1.8TFSI can be readily bought. Each to their own though and good luck

Omg why would you spend all that money on a car like that. Coming along nicely though, but still!

Unless you're planning to put an RS3 engine in there, I say forget it. You would struggle to sell that car, plus reliability after such a big conversion would be enough to concern me.

For the same reason everybody mods their car, and the same reason i have spent upwards of 2grand building an engine for my MK2 Golf.
Each to their own and all that.

Agree with the second part of your post though and your sig is class

engine wise we all know the s3 can take stage 3 as a daily so i see n problems there, *** for the bodywork everything has been done properly so again no problem there, the only issue i would have is if any of the one off machined pieces broke getting them remade would be a pia

Hi can any one help me mark 1 s3 engine has gone can I use any of the 20v turbo blocks thanks
