Oh these are great fun. It's pretty much a "How much do you know about your car?" quiz from Audi, except there's no winning prize, only stupid costs to pay if you lose.

What they do is take your pride and joy off you for a couple of hours, go through a nice big spreadsheet of checkpoints, highlighting things that apparently need doing on your car, and then hand a copy of this sheet over to you. They will endeavour to point out absolutely everything that they could possibly charge you for, whether it's a necessity or not. The quiz begins when you receive the sheet, and start working out just how much of what they're telling you is actually the truth, and whether or not the things they've highlighted do or do not need doing...
The question is will you be a winner? :eyebrows:

But in all seriousness, cutting all of my quiz rubbish above... It's really just an easy way for Audi to make a lot of money from unfortunate people who don't know much about their car. My car went into Audi for some minor servicing recently - some software related points that couldn't really be done anywhere else nearby me. Obviously included in this was the "Free Health Check" of which you speak, through which I was basically informed that everything under the sun is wrong with my car. Audi were also very helpful in reminding me that I'd fitted coilovers and recoloured the inside of my headlamps, just in case I'd forgotten maybe... Oh and the best part, they 'forgot' to wash and vacuum my car. Rest assured it went back to them the next day to have this completed, although don't expect a good wash, mine looked worse after than it did before it went in!

If you're genuinely worried by anything they put on their ridiculous spreadsheet, do yourself a favour and get it checked by an independent VW Audi Specialist, or a Garage you trust before you do anything. One thing I've learnt is, with cars, there is ALWAYS someone out there who will do a better job than the dealer, and usually for less.

Always thought this about free things there's not something right. Surely you would think such a big company would have a ethos to work from.

...and don't ever let the monkey's at Audi wash your car for you if you value your paintwork. They ruined my 8P S3!

haha, i never even turned up to it so i have to go a few more days of my radio on safe mode.

my paint work is allready ruined with stone chips and scratches some nice new ones from a car wash every time i use it

Have fun getting hit with a nice VHC for lots of money. We get MK4 golfs in for instance for simply things like an aircon service and we get pinged a VHC to fill in which usually ends up at £1500-£2000 once we`ve finished with it. Basically if a tech see`s anything worth noting they have to put it because if they dont and you took it elsewhere and they said oh this is worn and dangerous for instance, that dealer that didnt report it would get bent over!

I had one done at the service i had earlier this year, all tickety boo they said, three days later PAS pump, Steering rack and PAS oil cooler peeing out fluid, £2000 repair bill. I'll never use Audi again for servicing unless i have to

Free check totaly rubbish and waste a time. O my car they told me that the cambelt needs replacing urgent and a disc with pads. All ******** as i.ve change it by mysef around 10k miles ago.

My mate had one of these at VW a while ago.... it came back saying his glovebox needed a 'service'. Kept me entertained for a while.

That is fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.

The first time my car ever went into Audi, which was for a free of charge coilpack change, they completed one of their "free health checks". Amongst other things, they came back with:

Uneven tyre wear as a result of lowering springs upsetting car geometry

My car was on standard springs at the time.

Yeah, I cant immagine what a glovebox service involves, but it must be something good because it was about £75 if i remember rightly.

Well I guess it must be like a normal service? Glovebox oil and filter change, a good grease of the hinges etc.
Should always keep your glovebox oil topped up you know, if it gets too low the effects could be disastrous!
