Hello,

Can someone please tell me what the pressure regulator valve (hockey puck/space ship valve) does? When it works etc

Cheers,

not sure myself, i thought it was a crankcase breather valve, changed mine because it was all oiled up, still got the other breather valve to change tho

I have changed the crankcase breather valve, that made a difference to alot of issues i was having. Now i think i should have changed the PRV at the sametime?

how did you get to the valve? mines obviously been out at some point cos its got a jubile clip on it but i cant get in to undo it

I thought the hockey puck was PCV positive crankcase ventilation, I had to change mine as there was air leaking out of it, now my new ones doing the same it seems to have blown a square hole out of it

Here is a pic of my new one with the 'hole' in it only had it on a few weeks, does anyone else have a hole in theirs???

There are a few valves in the crankcase system; two that fail;

PRV= Google Image Result for http://img.tapatalk.com/a6898ae8-d661-d4d9.jpg or what Pabs has mentioned below.

Crankcase breather valve PCV = Google Image Result for http://www.ecstuning.com/product_library/6421/300/OEM%2520VW%2520%25252F%2520Audi%2520Breather%2520Valve%2520(PCV%2520Valve)%252019mm.jpg

(Sorry for the long links in work)

To changed the PRV (HOCKEY PUCK) its straight forward, you should see it right at the back of the engine. Two jubilee clips and its done.

Crankcase breather, slightly more difficult. Undo the one screw holding the coolant tank, move it out of the way to gain a better view and follow this guide here http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a4-a4-...104028-crankcase-breather-valve-location.html

Its only a breather/non return valve if you're gettin pressure in it then you have an issue.

The PCV valve under the inlet manifold on a 1.8t is one of the most common points of a boost leak.

Pabso,

I just bought a brand new one. That hole is meant to be there. I also doubted it at first but yes it has a purpose, I dont know what though....
