Afternoon!

I was driving into work this morning, coming down a big hill toward a roundabout.. Changed down to 4th, braked a tiny bit. Changed down to 3rd and went to re-apply the brakes but the biting point had suddenly moved and I had to press the brake pedal much further in. The brakes still worked fine but this got me a bit worried.

Has anyone else had this?

Thanks a lot,

John.

needs rebleeding.. are your discs / pads thick (do they have loads of meat left on them?) it might be that or that you need to bleed them mate.

Just looking through the service history and it doesn't look like the brake fluid has been changed in a while. I'll get onto it.

Not really sure how to check brake pads, but I can see at least 10mm of pad all round. Do i just go on what I can see or is there more to it than that?

Thanks,

John.

Also check the brake vacuum hose, its the black rigid plastic hose that connects the brake servo to the inlet manifold. Check each connection for splits in particular the point as it comes out of the brake servo, behind the heatshield and the point where it connects to the inlet manifold.

Thanks for that. I'll give it a look over at the weekend. I reckon there's something up as I get a sort-of hissing noise when I press the pedal. Is the vacuum hose the one which runs down the left side of the engine bay when looking from the front of the car, with a few 90degree bends near the bulkhead?

yes mate thats the one, it goes into the throttle body bolted onto the manifold

Awesome, cheers guys. Just had a look but my engine was so hot still I couldn't get anywhere near the brake servo! Gonna have to wait till tomorrow morning.

Got out there a minute ago but I can barely get my hand down the gap - the strut brace is right in the way. Is it OK just to unbolt the strut brace? anything to be aware of when removing it?

Nope, 3 13mm nuts either side and its straigt off.
