Hi -

Picked up a 700 tonight - not had a TTG before, so this is just a '1st impressions' post..

Went for the 700 because of the europe maps (particulary France where my dad lives, Belgium and Lux) and the big hdd, didnt need the bluetooth bit at all as I have a car kit.

very impressed so far. much quicker to use than i expected, having seen some fairly slow responses on a mates ipaq based one.. have only made one local trip - it was caught out slightly by a mini roundabout that went in last year that it didnt know about. Recalculation when you deviate from the intended route is very quick. The big sucker type thing for mounting it with is excellent, much better than i expected it to be.. 'night' mode works well too.

but its the mrs who is most impressed - we are likely to be moving soon to an area she doesnt know very well at all - and the thought of being able to stand in the kitchen and enter her destinations before leaving home went down really really well.. along with the 'Navigate to Home!' button to get her back from anywhere.. has already said she wants one for her car as soon as we move! To be fair - i think thats a good plan..

Next steps - download the speed camera database..

I have the original it's great - owned for about a year now and the quality of the maps ae fantastic - you won't regret it.

By the way - I installed a Brodit Pro clip mount which I use instead of the windscreen ons supplied - Drop me a PM with your Email and I'll send you a picture if you like - It really is much better - much less glare

was gonna get the 300 as don't need bluetooth or europe maps. however the 500 has a processor that's almost double the speed so is it worth me getting a 500 over the 300 just on this basis?

I wondered the same thing, but some of the nav forums (sorry, can't remember which ones) had some discussion, the long and short of which were that the 300 is plenty fast enough, so I've ordered one of these.

If you don't need the bluetooth phone stuff, I'd say stick with the 300.

Might get the 500 as you can buy a remote for it. Going 50/50 with my mum so only another £50 for me! Sorted.

lol - unfortunately the days when I could go 50/50 on stuff with my parents is long gone /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

good for you though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Im still on the 100% parents 0% me when it comes to some things!! Its great, though sadly those times are coming to an end!

i'm getting the 500, looks quite superior to 300 and couldn't see much difference in the 700 except the sd card switched for a USB cable, correct me if i'm wrong? i'm going to build it into the dash so SD card is better for my purpose,,,

Dummi I think you're quite right for that application.. the 700 has the 2.5GB hdd but no SD slot.. has all of europe in the whole time tho! comes with the remote too which works better than I expected.. and mostly for the kids to play with!! They like setting it up for you.. (Low tech form of voice activation - "Kids! Set up the journey!")

how does the 500 hardwire, i noticed on my mates 500 theres an electrical connector on the windscreen mount (gps antenna?). whats the brodit clip mount? would this be more useful for building it into the dash? ta

ended up getting the 500 from halfrauds - if you pick up a (free) ripspeed catalogue when you're there, look in the back and there's a bunch of money off vouchers. Use the £40 off when spending over £200 and it ends up cheaper than internet places, and no delivery charges either. bargain /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
