Removed my door blades today, thought i'd give them a good clean and see if I had any dreaded rust behind them. As I went I took a few pictures, I know it's an easy job that probably doesn't need a guide but I was bored.

Start by removing the 4 screws on the bottom of the door, 2 are behind rubber grommets.

When the 4 screws are out, slide the door blade towards the back of the car, mine was really stiff and I didn't want to hit it too hard incase I broke the lugs off, but after rocking it back and forth it came off. When it was off you can see all the dirt behind it, and at first I thought I had the rust but it washed off.

After a good clean, applied a little waxoyl to prevent ant future rusting.

Then gave the blade a good clean

The rear blades just slide off, you slide them towards the front of the car. No screws holding these on. These were also stiff, just wacked them with my hand a few times and it popped off.

Overall and easy job, I would recommend having one of those telescopic pens with the powerful magnet on the end so that if you do lose a screw in the door it's easy to retrieve.

I have been thinking about wrapping mine in gloss black or carbon, but thought it was a pain to take off, but after seeing this, it doesnt look so bad now :)

There is another recent thread where the owner has wrapped the blades in Carbon and it looks great :)

Has anyone had a problems getting the screws out, to do this?

My pas door blade is becoming un-glued between the bit that is screwed on and the external part, i wanted to take it off give a dam good clean up then reglue it and refit but. but on mine these screws are extremely tight!!

the outer one (easiest to get at) has now broken the white plastic strip on the outer edge of the door because the nut spun in it as i was trying to undo it.

plus the ones in the door don't nicely line up with the hole to put the screw driver through so they look like they are going to round off :keule:

Yes, when I did the guide one of the screws was seized and i couldn't get it off, had to drill it out. Easy if you have a drill and a metal bit.

I had a nightmare with this yesterday :(
my drivers side blade was pretty much hanging off, so i thought i'd give it a go taking it off.
straight from the off, i WD40'd all of the screws in hope it would help, only one screw actually came out, the other three were stuck (it seems that someone had attempted this before as well, 2 of the screw in points on the blade had rounded off and come away from the white plastic bit in the blade itself and there was a random long screw going through the door straight into the blade, which was also too long and poking through the outside of the blade). i eventually managed to get the blade off the door but the white plastic bit was in pieces and not even attached to the door blade :(

i was then left with the prospect of somehow removing the screws from the door as they are just hanging loosely, i managed to eventually get 2 of them off, but i'm now left with one screw still in situ and some duct taped holes to stop water ingress.

i don't really know what to do :( i guess it's a case of buying a new blade (the passengers side is almost as bad so i may as well get both) i take it you can't buy a replacement white plastic insert?

cracking guide, wondered how this was done, i can imagine theres all kinds of nasty stuff lurking behind them, moving house soon with a nice big double garage which I have claimed as a workshop so thats a job i'll be doing for sure
 
I made the mistake of pulling my driver's side blade off a while back. Luckily I didn't break any of the metal grommets off but I did destroy the long white plastic mounting strip and rounded off a couple of the screws. TPS quoted me nigh on £280 for a new blade. A self tapper into the blade solved the problem initially (excuse the bodge) but it will need replacing soon.
