Iv just bought a 2003 a3 3.2 quattro sport with a few problems, 1 the paintwork and wheels are tatty which im getting my local bodyshop to sort which is no problem but the main iss ue i have is with the engine.

It starts no problem at all but if you give it a small rev it will start to run really rough with low idle but sometimes idle is a tad over 1000rpm.
It recently was owned by a VAG technician who changed the chains, guides and tensioners and it ran fine at that point.

I have read the ecu with a snap on modis scanner and the following was flagged up.

16398 Bank 1 camshaft B (exhaust) ****** set point not reached (over advanced) P0014 not a plausible signal intermittent

16395 Bank 1 camshaft A (intake) ****** set point not reached (over advanced) P0011 not a plausible signal intermittent

16684 Randon/multiple cylinder missfire detected P0300 not a plausible signal intermittent

16685 Cylinder 1 missfire detected P0301 not a plausible signal intermittent

16687 Cylinder 3 missfire detected P0303 not a plausible signal intermittent

16686 Cylinder 2 missfire detected P0302 not a plausible signal intermittent

Would the timing fitted wrong cause this problem?
Is it likely the cam adjusters are at fault?
Can i meaure the cam adjuster reading via VAG-COM or can main dealer check this easy enough?

thanks in advance

All your faults are related to one side of the engine so at least that narrows it down a bit. My guess would be the vvt on that camshaft.
You can check blocks 208 and 209 on vcds, up to 8 is fine. My 3.2 ran at 2/3 after the chains were done and never altered.

Is this a main dealer check only and how long does it take if i ask them specificly to only check blocks 208-209?

No it's not main dealer, most people on here use vcds (vag-com).
Simple job to plug in and check, only takes a minute.

Im in process of getting a vcds, im a bit of a noob so may need some pointers to get to right section.

Another thing to add, once its idling funny, if i turn engine off and start again it runs fine until i rev it.
