Hi Guys,

Well I've been trying to sell my s3 for a month but keep getting messed around by people promising to come and see it but never turn up. :( Advertised it on pistonheads and now autotrader and no joy yet...

Any tips? We're not allowed to ask for price recommendation are we? I think it's very competitively priced considering the extras.

Anyone used Ebay before to sell a car?

My s3 took fecking forever to sell, even with all it had, as a guide mine sold for £4800 with rods, badger 5 modded ah fabs v2 fmic, 3 inch dp and miltek, brembos, Bilstein and apex suspension etc etc

Put a reserve on it that you'd stoop to and then you can't go wrong

I got the most response from ASN, but I guess it's natural for a modded car! I put it at a rock bottom no discount price also. First person to come see it purchased it!

If you want a good price, then stick with it, if you want a quick sale, then drop the price!

Mate youll struggle, you can get fully loaded s3's for 3.5k, its mental. Why you selling anyway?

Put it on ebay as a classified listing its a tenner for 30 days if it sellls you get your money back, put my old car on there sold in less than a day! :)

hi,
you vavent told us details 'bout the car its condition plus your asking price.
it could be that your car is overpriced.

Why don't you sell the "modified" parts separately and make a little money on those. May change the clientele youre after.

Hi guys. Fran, I think this is a sign mate. Keep her!

Seriously, at the end of the day these cars are expensive to insure & run for younger drivers who might have a few grand to spend, but are now too old to attract most people who can afford them but want a younger model.

So I think you'll have to drop it right down if you want to get it shifted unfortunately. Personally, my S3 is worth heaps more to me in emotional value than it will ever be in £ notes. It's a shame but it's reality.

And a "standard, unmolested" car will always be more attractive to a general punter than a modified one, even if it has "a few sensible modifications". Unless you're going for the enthusiast, I'd get it completely standard and advertise it as such.

Oh, and I'll have the sub in your boot if you do thake that route!!!

firstly, its not your car, secondly, you never started this thread, and more also i was only suggesting one of many possible reasons why it never sold.

i have sold cars for living in the past and understand how hard it is in this current climate to sell cars,
especially an S3.
.
This is NOT a 'what's it worth' thread..... ;)

he is however a moderator, and I don't think he was stating the obvious for the fun of it, more because if it turns in to a for sale/what's it worth thread, it will be closed

i only want to make what i can call a valuable positive contribution to this thread and wish not to engage anyone in any form of verbal gymnasics.
if the guy is a moderator, the acrbishop of canterbury, or Tony Blair, thats none of my business.

JoJo was not coming over aggressive hence the cheeky smiley at the end, just sometimes these threads get turned round into sale threads.

I agree with what your asking though, information on what has been done to the car and what car it is can help us give pointers or suggestions, like The Doctor said standard cars are easier to sell than modified, as its hard to swallow the loss of the mods on the car. A modded S3 will be worth the same as a standard S3 to someone looking for a standard S3, only the enthusiast who knows what the mods are and how they have improved the car will pay the extra cash over a standard one.

Also there are the Insurance costs to add into it, modded cars are through the roof for insurance companies. A young lad mid 20's who wants to insure a sporty car will have virtually no chance with a modded car, that's why it may be better to return it to standard and sell the performance enhancing parts separately, you may even make more money that way.

Haha didn't stop my dad from trying though! :)

I think subtle mods make it abit better to sell but just hang I'm there bud, I'm sure the right buyer will come soon!

The only interest I've had is people wanting parts off it. And a swap so far. Only been a few days though.

Am hoping to sell soon though. Do not want to be waiting a month like you've been.

Thanks for the tips guys - I will try the Ebay route next I think then. Reason I'm selling is I've moved to London so I don't use it at all and it's to nice a car to be sat on the street 5 days a week doing nothing. It's at my parents and getting some use at least from my dad.

Put a reserve on it that you'd stoop to and then you can't go wrong

Be careful with that as you will be charged a % of the reserve if the item does not sell which will not be small. Best go with BIN or best offer or start an auction from your reserve price therefore not incurring any fees if it doesn't sell.

From my experience selling you need to price very keenly at the moment and that will probably mean a figure you wont like the sound of but if you wait it out you will probably end up getting less than that in the end. I have seen a standard 01' 80k fsh for 3850 ovno 2 months ago but in silver though.. That sold fast and probably close to asking.

Piston heads was pretty good, Autotrader pulled in no leads. Ebay is around 14 quid (classifieds) a month so worth a go definitely check the final value fees for motors if you decide the auction or BIN route but believe they are capped at about 50 quid. Not sure i would waste money with Autotrader again with a performance car. Not something i would have said a decade ago !!!

Ok thanks guys - well I've dropped the price now to £3395 which I can't believe I've had to do for a facelift 2001 s3, ok 110k but still makes my eyes water when I consider all the extras it comes with! I spent 4months looking all over the country for it. Thanks for your help guys I really appreciate it will remember the BIN or best offer bit on Ebay if I have no joy soon. Crazy times.

Is it In the classifieds section in here? That's where I looked to find mine!

I think that's a good price imo. The BIN with offers is always a good way to attract bites.. Good luck.

I always go BIN Or best offer with Ebay. To be honest, its the only way ive sold my cars over the past few years.
Yes you do get many time wasters on ebay, but LOADS of people look for cars on ebay, so it would be silly not to advertise it there.

Thanks guys will go with that next month.... :)

Just hold onto it will take the right buyer ebay is good but again can be a waste of time people will bid your car and then not turn up give it a try mate

Thanks guys - finally managed to sell her after someone spotted her on Autotrader. One phone call, one view, one sale! Thanks for the advice guys - who know may be back with another someday! :)
