I'm getting mine changed to a single flywheel from the dual 1 is this common my top garage recommended it any suggestions
 
Lol just wondering what Audi car owners think of this choice
 
I don't know what car you have,but a SMF will leave a fair bit of added thrash and harshness,as it's job is to damp all of that out.
If you gave a bit more information,like why your garage has recommended this,is this engine modified etc etc it would be helpful,as you're going to have to change the clutch as well if you do this,and unless you're looking at an engine with a lot of power(we didn't do mine until we'd got beyond 440bhp),you really aren't going to get much from this.

Still a bit short on detail,but if it isn't extensively modified for greater power,I cannot see why your "top garage" is recommending a move to something that will require a new clutch as well as the flywheel,in return for more noise,thrash,vibration and so on,and no real benefit.
If the clutch and flywheel on yours need replacement,then you could argue it on those grounds,but I would still be inclined to keep the DMF and maybe add a Sachs organic clutch for durability,but not an SMF.....I have a Spec clutch and SMF on my S3,and you can easily feel and hear the extra engine thrash.
 
I am on the way of needing to replace my clutch as well,dont known if I should go for original audi clutch or after market part?I have 2.0 tdi 2004 and non-modified car.Any suggestions?

I'd get the appropriate Sachs organic and DMF if possible,as it's reliable,tough(good for around 400lbs)and retains much of the stock clutch feel.

So.....just in case,I'll say it again,...noise,vibration and harshness will ALL be increased,and you WILL notice that,as even on my car which is already pretty loud at times,you can both hear and feel this.
I don't mind too much,but bear in mind yours is a diesel and you are going to get more of this.

If you want to go out in your overalls with your straw cap ploughing fields then buy an SMF because your car will sound like a tractor

Nice one.....I've tried to explain this,but it's difficult.

Mine is petrol fed,so it's not as bad,but over semi-race engine mounts,and all the other bits,you can still tell it's got an SMF fitted,but you can't tell someone who isn't listening.
 
SMF's are much more road useable on petrols, With harsh engine mounts that will increase the cabin vibrations but SMF on diesels is just a massive no. Unless the dual mass is incapable of keeping the transmission link you wouldn't change it.

i have the silenced smf on my tdi i run more pwer than standard and plan to go further soon. on a recent sprint day my comrades couldnt beleave on tick over how quiet mine was and on a thrash i cant hear mine either but the non res miltek may have something to do with that but a smf suits my car for the kind of driving i do
 
Unless any car is heavily modified and producing a lot more torque then standard stick with a DMF on both petrol and diesel cars. SMF sound bad on petrol cars and ****** terrible on diesel cars.
 
While on this subject, do you know what torque DMF is rated to?

Good question.....all I can say on that is mine managed 440lbs without blowing up.
