Right guys I'm brand new to the site so hello the names paddy ,,,,,I've done a bit of research on beefing up my 1999 a3 1.8t agu engine and wanted people's opinions on what I'm planning on doing please !

So to start off with am I correct in saying the model I have with it being front wheel drive not Quattro is the 150 Bhp with a ko3 turbo and forged internals / large port ???

Any way my plan is to fit the following which I have purchased
2nd hand ko3s turbo 180bhp as standard or ?????
full silicone hosing intake tip and so on boost pipes !! Not any major make but still £130 off eBay for the set
new de-cat down pipe 3 inch and 3 inch stainless exhaust from down pipe back ! (will this be same fitting as the ko3 ? )
N75 j valve instead of the standard n75
tt 225 Bhp injectors !
Full remap when all is fitted !!

Is there anything else I should be doing bar upgrading the brakes (maybe s3 brakes)
and what do you think I will be hitting Bhp wise ? . Also planning a front mount inter cooler but I've been told not completely necessary maybe if I was to go ko4 in future then yeah


The cars had a full service oil and oil filter , plugs , new mag as the last one went , new fuel filter , air filter

Now don't take this the wrong way but for a 1.8 turbo I was expecting a bit more from it to be honest so it's this or I just give up now and go buy a chavved up scooby lol

Yeah was thinking that !!! Went to look at a set of wheels off a newer shape a3 but they were spaced further apart which was a shame as they would have been a nice add and cheep too with brand new tyres lol !! Bit gutted really !!! Any ideas on Bhp I'd be hitting

Yeh your AGU is FWD 150bhp as standard. Going with the k03s setup with the items yo have listed and remap you should be seeing figures around the 220-230 - there are some cases with slightly higher figures... Is the turbo in good condition with no play?
 
Says in the description in good condition with no in out play in shaft !!!! Got it for a bargain price as well £50
is there anything else I should do ? Up rate Fuel pump ?? What should I use ?
 
I also seen somewhere about using s3 plugs ???
also gonna change head gasket cam belt and is it worth doing water pump and oil pump ?
 
Might be worth getting the turbo refurbed. Better to be sfa ethan sorry...
Im still im the process of going k03s, but i have not had anyone mention the fuel pump being uprated. Im sure someone will confirm this shortly...
If your doing cambelt deffo change the water pump too. If the pump has never been changed, its more than likely the water pump will be original and made out of plastic. New ones are made from metal...

Hi paddy welcome to this great forum I see u are starting to go down the same route I have , first make sure the turbo is a genuine item not a cheap copy, if it was £50 alarm bells should be ringing so get it check out before fitting it, a fmic would work great with a ko3s setup plus a good exhaust system to compliment your downpipe and decat as it makes a real difference on mine, maybe also like me run a good air feed to the airbox and upgrade the panel filter to a pipercross one, the injectors u have are fine and as long as the car is running good without any vagcom issues it should be fine for a remap

My spec is below

A3 1.8T fitted with ko3s turbo
neuspeed tip
pipercross panel filter and cold air feed from front bumper
forge silicone turbo pipes
forge fmic
forge 007p dv
toyosport downpipe and decat
scorpian exhaust system

Im running stage 2 and have 222bhp and 250ftlb torque my remap was done by nik at rtech and now I'm soon going to be doing my ko4 turbo conversion if u want any more help or advice feel free to contact me

Hi paddy is that the turbo you won on eBay for some reason it looks like it has a 3 stud pattern not 4 like my ko3s here is a pic of mind below before it was fitted

Just double check it's a ko3s mate and make sure all seals are good and find out the mileage and reason it was removed mate

Have a look at Badger 5's 3" TIP it is awesome and well worth the £££. Had one on my Leon Cupra R, that with a de-cat made the WORLD of differnece.

Hi thanks for the info ! I've just googled the serial number down the side of it and it's coming back as a ko4 ??? Can anyone confirm this ???
 
Can someone click on the link above i put on And look at the pics and try confirm if this is a ko3s turbo or a ko4 coz I'm not sure ??? The intake and out take on it looks a lot smaller than the pic of a ko3s that's been put up in this thread !!! But the serial / part number on the turbo says its a ko4 ???

The serial number looks to me like 5304 101 5066 ???

Right:

The turbo you bought is the same as the one you have already, sorry dude, you got done. Ko3-026 is a ko3 from a Quattro.
Not all 180's were ko3s, it's a bull**** myth people refuse to let die. Sorry mate.

Whoever told you you won't need an fmic with a ko3s: ignore anything they say to you. Ever again

Whoever told you you'll need 225 injectors: ignore anything they say to you. Ever again

Whoever told you to fit an n75J instead of the standard one: yup, you guessed it; ignore anything they say to you. Ever again

If the same person told you all of the above, I'd go one step further and kick his dog to teach him a lesson.

As for Fraggles post above, it's a nice idea, and b5 TIP's are incredible, but sadly of no use to you, as they're ko4 fitment only :(

And Bobby, try turning your old turbo upside down and you'll see the other side is 3 bolt :rolleyes:

What shall I do with this car from start to finish to save me buying a ****ty impreza same as every other Tom , **** and Harry ?

If you could give a rough price and recommend a place for a remap it would be most appreciated !!! I'm not very mechanically minded so my plan is to buy everything I need then have someone that knows what they are doing (you maybe) fit the lot then take it and have it remapped ! Price ain't a major issue but it will take me a couple of weeks to get everything on the list as the misses drops twins in 2 weeks but hope to have everything done and be happily flying round in it by end of next month ??? It's not much to look at at the minute but when all engine and other work is done to make her bullet proof il look at a respray and tart her up visually
 
Where abouts are you in the country?

For AGU mapping on Bosch ME3.8 with a ko3s, there is literally only one place to go.....

Assuming all is in good condition, you will see 225-230bhp and 250-260lbft, and it'll go like **** off a shovel!

Budget wise, you know what the downpipe and stuff costs, and exhaust is down to what you buy.

Budget £200 for an intercooler setup, the ebay turbo revs one at £190 is perfect for a stage 2 A3.

the map will set you back about £250-300 depending on what level of tune you're after I think.

Aside from that, some S3 brakes (just need carriers and discs for your calipers) will get it stopping properly, and either some coilovers or shocks and springs (people have remarkably good results with JOM ebay coilovers for £180) to tigthen up the ride a tad, and replace any bushes that might (will) be worn out along the way.

Really depends on your budget mate, and how far you want to take it....

For quick win +80bhp the k03S conversion really is a belter, the transformation is brilliant. 230bhp in a 1240kg A3 gives you not far off E36 M3 power:weight, so it shifts.

ko4 is still bolt on technically, but there's a LOT more to change, and mapping costs increase too.

Plus you've got to consider your long term plans for the bottom end, no point in spanking £3k on a GT28 now if you have no intention of fitting uprated internals (rods) in the near future....
 
How you feel about fitting the lot once acquired lol ? For a small fee of course !
 
as Much as I'd like to help mate I don't think I'll be able to, I did a ko3S swap on a golf a few weeks ago and it wasn't too bad, but I'm working tidal shifts 24/7 living on site from now until September! **** hours, but good money so can't turn it down.

Hijack - I'm looking at going GT2871 what rods and pistons would u suggest?
 
Stock pistons are fine :) coupled with some H or I beam forged rifle drilled rodsof your
choice, there are plenty of Rods out there, it just seems to be personal preference/ cost which ones you go for
 
Right guys !! My progress thus far is as follows !!!!
Iv bought a
ko3s turbo in great condition no play £189
intake tip £25 second hand !! (no special make something motorsport ? but loses the bottle neck on the original )
all new gaskets and seals and bolts to fit the turbo from audi dealer £30
braided oil line £17 (second hand)
Twin pod with boost and oil pressure £10 ( second hand)
new thermostat as the one in at the minute after much reading is deffo ******** £10


So that still leaves me in need of a front mount inter cooler , brakes , suspension , down pipe & exhaust and a decent clutch if anyone can help out cheaply please let me know ??? Then it's all getting banged on and taken for a remap !!!!!
 
Ok , just a quick question , the new intake tip I'v bought just jubilee clips to the turbo now ??
