I'm in two minds as to if I should fix my car (again) or just break it or sell it as it is. It's a preg 2.6 v6 Quattro it's done 130000 miles and has been playing up for a whole now, it's still hesitates under excellaration and sometimes when idling it really judderes, indicators still faulty even after changing stalk( thanks again Aragon) and changed hazard switch twice, I've done a lot of work to it since I've owned it in the last two years, it's had belts done by me, it's had two new cats new power steering pump new cuts new thermostat new coil pack and ht leads plus other bits and bobs, it's still got a few months mot left but it's come to the point where I might have to cut my losses and ask myself how much more do I spend, ive seen a couple of B6's I like and Im not to sure what to do really, I can store the car if I decide to break but can't buy new car till I get rid of most bits from this one, and having a disabled son that's always at hospital ect I need a car, I could keep it and carry on spending more money on it or I could try and sell it as it is.
Whats everyone's thoughts?? Sorry for long post and thanks for any advice given

You have done a lot to it so probably worth doing a bit of investigation work on what is up with it and working out cost to rectify it then decide?

Cheers Sulli I just don't know what else I can do to find the problem took it to Audi they run vcds on it and it came back with nothing?? No codes at all so really not to sure what I can do next really, I really do love the car but it's driving me mad

dont know much about this engine, have you tried removing each lead in turn at idle to see if it makes a difference?

If you haven't tried this make sure if you do that you use something insulated to remove and replace the leads, and only do one at a time!

Yeah tried that mate checked all resistance to ht leads changed all plugs ect gave it a full service last month all filters ect changed I'm just lost mate, the thing is and I probably should have said in the original post is every single problem with the car is intermittent and there is no pinpointing when it happens, it can happen when cold or hot, when excelarating or foot of the pedal and as for the indicators I could be indicating to turn left at a roundabout and when I look at the dash the hazards are flashing lol people don't know which way I'm turnig

idle thing sounds like a dicky injector. buy one new one and fit it to no.1 see if it makes a difference if not move it to no.2 and so on.
either that or take them all out and send them off to be checked and cleaned. think its £16 each or sumurt.
ASNU Fuel Injector cleaning by post..

indicators, if youve changed the stalk and flasher unit (hazard light switch), get hold of a wiring diagram and work thru it.

unless theres a fault keeping it off the road then id keep asking on here and fix the niggly faults.
being that the cars not worth that much as an old a4 v6 petrol and that youve already sunk more than its worth on doing other jobs. i think without loosing a shed load of cash your stuck with it!

Injector clean is a good shout and they do it ultrasonic so all good, cheaper than a new set! does this have lambda sensors? have you tried disconnecting these at idle to see if there is any improvement

its an old 2.6. lambdas have very little influence on how it runs. wont be the cause.

Might try injector clean as that's my only option left, yeah they have two pre cat sensors and both of them are less than a year old, think I'll try injectors but would that not throw a code on vcds?? Thanks again

May not throw up a code if the injectors are getting the right signal the ecu may think it is ok. do the clean and change fuel filter before refitting, where abouts in east sussex are you?

dont just glance, look at the injector cleaning link, at the spray pattern bit. symtoms and probable causes. email them and get a quote.
get it done and emiminate it from your possibles...........

Thanks Murran don't suppose you know where I can get a wiring diagram from do ya??? Yeah I'm gonna give injectors a go and see if I can trace wires to indicators to see if I can sort that then ill be a happy bunny, and your right these v6 petrol engined cars aren't worth a lot these days but it is still a great car when it drives ok, it's got full leather ect and a SKI BAG lol when I bought the car I wondered what the f#*k it was till I joined here.

I'm in Eastbourne mate right on the coast, definatly going to give the injectors a go and see where that leaves me

Thats a good site and it's crazy how different the sprays are and how they can affect the filling of the tubes cheers

on these old lumps unless you unplug an injector to make the ecu read open circ, you wont see an injector fault code.
also the ability of the ecu misfire recognition is crap aswell. you will never see a "misfire cyl 2 detected" on one of these. jesus, theres only one knock sensor per bank. its prehistoric. before this engine they were practically a carb and points.

Yeah do that, next logical step. if you get stuck with the indicators give me a shout, can pop down and help out

Cheers sulli where are you based then mate, I'll let you know how injector cleaning goes and I'll go from there

i'll have a look on autodata at work if i get a chance. print it off. wont be able to email it to you, but i can give pointers from it. what year is your b5? is it "abc" your engine code?

I can sort you a PDF of the wiring diagram if you want. Send me your email and what bits you want to see.

As for keeping the car, give it some thought and do the sums. It doesnt sound like theres a huge amount wrong with it, so if your on a budget and want to keep costs down, then its probably a fair shout to keep it going. If all it needs is the missfire sorted out and the indicators fixed, its probably worth keeping for now, however if theres a list of other minor faults lurking away waiting to become major ones, its probably wise to consider your options.

On the indicators, didnt you say previously that it had some aftermarket alarm fitted? If so thats where you need to be looking.

That's true Aragon I am on a budget at the moment I think everyone is to some extent, I'm going to look into getting this misfire sorted and go from there I think, just really drives me mad that I just manage to put one thing right and something else goes wrong, but that's just cars I suppose, if you could send me a diagram of the cars indicator wiring diagram I'm just going to trace the wires and see if there's a fault there, I'll pm you my email address cheers mate

I had the same problem with the indicators, I replaced the stalk and the hazard light switch, turned out to be corrosion in the CL pump, located in the boot right side in the well I found there was loads of moisture in there, took it out, tried the indicators.... working perfectly. I kept it in doors over night, popped open the cover and saw the corrosion between 2 solder joints, scraped it off and put it back. Its been perfect ever since.

Nice one mate I'll take a look tomorrow hopefully that's the problem as I don't really fancy checking every single wire for the indicators, thanks again

Hi sorry no update been busy, right I took out cl pump and yes was corroded so cleaned it up dried it out and put it back and do far indicators been fine ever since, only used car a couple of times since though, as for injectors my mate has one of the James ultrasonic cleaner thingys from maplins so I tried cleaning injectors with that but still hasn't worked so am just waiting to get a bit of extra cash to get them cleaned professionally.
