Well not another A4 suspension arm post I hear you all groan....lol.
Thing is, I have a knock coming from the front end and I don't think that its an arm or joint problem?
I appreciate that these sort of issues are notoriously difficult to diagnose via the internet but these are my symptoms....
When pulling away from rest outside my house and travelling the short distance down my drive (smooth concrete with a few 'ripples') there's a distinct metallic knock from the front end.
It isn't generally there if I hit a pothole etc, rough surfaces seem to induce it more than anything else.
If I come to a halt and deliberately don't de-clutch , and leave it it in too high a gear I can seemingly get it to appear on demand ; there's a distinct knock-knock-knock from the front end that doesn't sound too healthy at all.
Have checked all arms/joints at front with prybar and cannot find any movement, in fact I took the car back to the garage last week where I get the MOT done (so up on 4 poster and checked all joints for play) and they couldn't find anything wrong at all....
Same with ARB mounts and the C shaped drop links.
Having run 2 x Audi 80's I'm familiar with strut-top mountings and the noise they make when they go but the A4 doesn't have an equivalent set-up does it?
Can anyone suggest possible causes?
Engine mounts seem OK as I did an engine oil change yesterday and they appeared intact.
Front shocks and springs seem fine with no evidence of breakage or leaks.
Checked the bolts that hold the upper suspension arm cradle/carrier to the inner wing and they are all very tight, driveshaft joints appear OK, no knocking on turning or anything , in fact drivers outer is only 1 yr old.
It's got me stumped?
Could a gearbox mount be on its way out?
Would be grateful for any pointers!
