Hi all.

When i close the passenger door on my a3 tdi there is a rattling noise. This has started since i had a new door lock fitted. It has been to the garage twice since for diagnosis but there appears to be nothing wrong.

Any ideas guys.

Thanks

Something loose inside?

Whip the door panel off, it's a 2min job at best, and see if anything is loose in there

Im told that you cant take the door card completely away from the door. If thats the case, what if you wanted to fit a new interior haha. Il have a bash when it stops raining

Who told you that?!

Iv noticed the screws id need to remove. Just wondered if they popped off like golk mk4 crappy door cards. My local time served vw mechanic told me i cannot take the complete door card off. Baffled.com

You can only create a gap of several inches between the card and door because of the door lock cable and wire connectors. Once you remove these you can take the doorcard completely away from the frame.

Is the door lock cable and wire connector easy to refit once taken off?

Mine is the same when you shut the door the rattle sounds like a pencil rolling in the door, took the door card off and the only thing I could find was the push down locking pin appears to be flapping in the wind. Put it all back together and the rattle went for a week or so. But now returned?

Another thing to check are the bolts at each end of the door that hold the crash bars that run through the door, if these are loose it will cause a nasty rattle when you shut the door, had this in my old A3

Apparently the wiper motor hangs free and is hitting the door when shut. It didn't do it before the lock change though.

Once the door card is off. The lock mechanism (white long plastic cord) it sits in a black U clip. They can come off when you remove the door card causing the irritating rattle.

Update guys.
Today i took the door card off (really easy) had a little knock around to see if there was any loose items. Turns out it was 2 bolts that hold 2 walkie talkie sized boxes on the lower door (unsure what they are)

Anyway all i did was take the bolts out and cut 7mm from each. JOB DONE.

Thankyou to all who gave advice. Much appreciated
