i am taking the next step towards my custom stage 2 map, and have booked myself into longlife tomorrow to get a custom cat back system to compliment my 3"dp+dacat!!!
was just wondering if anyone had good knowledge on what would be best to get put on in terms of flow and performace???
res or de res, middle silencer or not ect ect??
any input would be greatly received!!!
p.s i aint no chave so only want a nice sound when i hit the loud peddle!! lol

Aslong as the backbox is of decent size the noise wont be too offensive. I have a non-res Jetex with decat on the A4 and its still pretty quiet compared to the likes of a non-res Milltek or something altough the downpipe im getting made on thursday will wake it up a touch but it`ll still be fine.

And will I get a small amount of flame if I go for a twin round back box too??
Cheers.

Probably would do on a stage 2. Even with a decat/downpipe and standard catback you might see some. Style of tip on the backbox wont make any difference.

If you dont want it too loud go for non res.

Let us know what sort of price you end up paying as I'll need to sort out the back end of my exhaust system soonish.

non res is louder then res!

Yeah non res is a straight through pipe, resonated is like another backbox in the middle of the system

Terry mate do a vid of the sound of your exhaust now and after new exhaust !!

What ever you do, make sure you insist they do the full system in 2.5''. These places have a habbit of bashing on a 2'' system because it's cheaper to make, when it's not really big enough for the car.

I enquired about a full 3'' catback for my A3 at my local LongLife branch, and they told me that it wasn't needed for anything and they had been fitting 2.5'' systems to 600bhp Evo's and all sorts. Oh dear.

True prawn, my exhaust is f'ed from custom places putting 2 in in my system, news to get it sorted really. Pain in the ****

Personally wouldn't touch them with a barge pole I had a shocking experience with longlife, there is nothing custom about what they do, they don't even put flange to flange, they will purely weld to your existing exhaust pipe by meaning they will cut the pipe and then weld the stainless system on to (very custom NOT)

You are better off purchasing a ready made stainless steel system from a trusted supply where you can bolt on.

To be honest germany and japanese exhaust systems are pretty damm good

Hope this helps

Paul.

When I had mine done, it was done in 2.5' and back box end was flared and clamped. Cat end was flared and welded.

I have nothing negative to say about my experience. Deffo recommend.

i was well impressed with what i got!!! they guys there where real nice chaps!! didnt bodge at all, took the guy about 5.5 hours to complete it, so it was done properly!! am extremely happy!!!!!
i had a little play last night, it sounds awsome!!! and has a real rasp under full boost!! lol and i can make flames too!!! well chuffed!
does anyone know how to post up vids without having photo bucket or such like??? cheers.

The only reason they say that is because 2.5" is the biggest pipe that will fit in their bending machines, and they need to have 3" specially made and shipped in, so it costs a shed load more and people tend not to bother with it.

Anything over 350bhp needs 3" right the way through IMO

Where I used to work, this bloke brought his "850bhp" Skyline R34 for an MOT and that genuinely had a FIVE INCH exhaust from turbo back!

It may or may not have had 850 bhp, but it certainly was ready for it with the T88 turbo and 5" exhaust haha

Anyway thread hijack over!! ^_^

Well it looks like they have learn from the poor workman ship they did on my car a few years ago as that wasnt even on offer see pics below

What do you think, or am i being super sensitive

Cheers

Nah your right, your exhaust job looks shocking. I'll get some pics of mine tomorrow and post them up

How much u pay for the system terry mate? As I may need a new one in the future

Almost as bad as the place I took mine for a custom downpipe. They welded in a new flexi (which was needed) and that was it eventhough I asked for a full 2.5" downpipe. Looked under the car when I got home and saw just a flexi not a full thing, plus the welds are sh!t. Phoned this morning and he said they didn't do it because A, he can't remember the conversation we had (which is utter bs) and B, he said its pointless going bigger than standard because the outlet on the turbo isn't 2.5" so I'll gain nothing in going bigger.. Why can't there be an off the shelf downpipe so I don't have to deal with these clowns :(

i ended up paying £350 all in pall.... and he didnt charge me for getting the full system in 2.5inch either!! done a really good job on it m8, would really recommend them to anyone!!!
i am trying to upload the vids of it all, and the one with the little flames..... which i have got down to a tee now!! :)
keep an eye on the thread!

Been on maybe a year. No issues.

It is custom lol. Started as a straight bit of tubing that was the bent and flared at the ends.

Admit that the welding isn't exactly professional. I just didn't want a clamp so that was the only other option. And the long welds are covering the slots in cat pipe.

Cost me £100 for the work. And I've had issues with it. Whereas before all I ever had was problems with sleeves and pipe sagging.

Tbh, I'd doesn't look all that professional, but if that's how u wanted it and it's not caused u problems then eh!!!
i am extatic with my system!! Couldn't be happier, very tidily fitted and all welded in TIG!!!! And I av got my flame popping down to a tee now, just waiting to av enough time to fit my k03s then off to get my custom stage 2!! :))
