Just wondering if anybody here has gone up against a WRX or STi, and what the results were... Got to drive my buddy's 300 HP S3 tuned by ABT last weekend, and I must say it was not quite as fast as I thought it would be. When I got back in my 3.2 it felt beefier... The 1.8 has such turbo lag, but if driven in the higher RPMs it is pretty quick... But i'll stick with my 3.2 for now... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ok.gif

I'd expect nobody is that daft. they are 2 totally different cars. Scooby would slaughter it.

S_Line should know, he's had both, and goes up against his mates Scooby's all the time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

Well I used to have a USDM STi with 350 hp when I lived in the U.S. and it was pretty fast, but the 3.2 DSG is an awesome machine... just wondering if anyone has any track expereinces or encounters with scoobies and evos etc...

I had an STI with the Prodrive pack (305 bhp) and whilst my 3.2 is quick. Its not that quick. But the 3.2 is deceptive in that it is smoother and not so noisy so its quicker than it seems. But whilst others may not agree my STI was considerably faster.

I travel quiet country roads on the way to and from work. There is an uphill bend following on from a left and right combination, and I know how quick I can go before having to brake, as it is I'm almost 10 mph down on the Subaru ....hoping to improve on this. But the terminal speed is a combination of acceleration, cornering and braking ability. So for me its a good indication.

I would have thought that the 3.2 would be at a disavantage to a scooby on the twisties.
The gear ratio's on the scooby must be closer than a 3.2.

I had about 4 cars lengths on a scooby the other night - saying that though, it wasn't the latest, pre-bug eyes that's for sure. 220 bhp or something like that I think? It would've been more if I hadn't fluffed 2nd to 3rd!!

Woo Hoo my Dept. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ok heres the Score

Ive owned Import WRX, Type R, and the legend WR1.

from a Type R to a WR1 the WR1 was a major let down, it had MASSIVE tubo lag and nothing happened under 3500 RPM /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

A real waste of time araound the city as you could not pull out in front of anything.

THis is why is Part EX the WR1 for the 3.2 Quattro.

Side by side the A3 3.2 S - Line feels lighter and more nible, back lane blasts are for more safer feeling in the 3.2 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

and the Motorway at 130mph plus in the 3.2 is far more quieter in the 3.2 as the WR1s bonnet used to bounce up and down at high speed, the windscreen wipers were inafective over 100 and the doors seals played bag pipe tunes over 120.

So the 30K WR1 was ... welll not for me,

So any more questins i can answer.

as im rather in deep with teh scooby scene , its a shame that Subaru have Lost the Plot /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

THe 3.2 DSG has faster out of corners than a scooby, with a better 4wd system can get the power down far better.

I have been on B Road Blasts following Scoobs and the Audi is just a dream and a relaxing drive, where the scoobs are dancing all over the shop !

Sounds like i stand corrected.
I'd have thought that the understeer on the 3.2 would mean the scooby would corner a lot better and in a straight line the newer versions of scooby would blow it away.

Either way i wouldn't swap mine for a scooby /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

You mean Autobahn don't you dude /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ok.gif

The reason I ask is because when driving my 3.2 it does feel almost as fast as my STi was although the specs and the test sheets show a large difference...

Having owned a scooby (in the same club as S-Line) and now the owner of an S3, I'll add my thoughts as well...

I had a UK 00MY impreza, remapped to 255bhp and 260lbsft torque.
Just had the S3 Revo'd yesterday and can honestly say the S3 has more punch, and lots more mid range than my scoob.
The re-map has transformed the car. When standard my S3 kept up very closely with a standard Jap WRX, with the re-map It will be very much matched

One day ill show everyone the Video i took of the whole scoobyclub pulling out of a right hand junction.

THere was rather a few messy pull outs, one so bad i started to run for cover !!!

Then Matt pulled out in the S3- Smooth as silk is the best way i can describe the pull out /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

horses for courses?

a well driven wrx on boost in every gear will be quicker than a 3.2 on a cross country b road blast easliy - sure turbo lag etc - but if you drive around the lag they are quick - very quick - drive it likeyou would a large normally aspirated motor and they are poo...
the 4x4 system is full time in the scooby and is more driver friendly as its always doing something - the quattro system audi uses is great for everyday driving in bad road conditions, but when youre really pushing the performance envelope its rubbish and feels aweful IMO - understeer is the name of the game with both 4x4 systems (unless on a spec c etc with rear bias a possibility) - safe, fast but unrewarding to the driver - try a mk2 escort with a LSD for rewarding (yep showing my age)

must admit had a scooby a long time ago and loved it - but since have owned a lancia delta evo1 running 1.7bar boost - not many scoobies could take that on :) not exactly a cruiser like a 3.2! and not an every day everywhere car - thats where the 3.2 comes in to its own! fantastic sporty all round car for everyday!

suggest something for the weekend.... mines a 3.8rs engined 993 - proper cc's and definately no lag out of junctions ;-)

A mate had an EvoII Delta Integrale, pearlescent white, push button start, stage 2 turbo etc. Blew 2 garret T3s but was easily the greatest car ever. Just magnificent.

Have you seen the video on the "general" forum?
