Sportback Upgrading

Well after getting all the parts together and getting some spare time to do it I did the single to double din conversion today.
I'm not going to bother with a how-to as there are plenty of them about the internet.
Here's all the bits

The hardest bits were taking the single din cage out and fitting the double din cage. At one stage during removal of the single cage I thought I was about to break the right hand side of the dash off it was bent that much. Anyway I got it all done, patience is the key. And don't be afraid of using the dremel on the climatronic unit ;)

I replaced the pollen filter while I was at it, it was in a state with leaves and load of crap falling out of it.

So here's the usual before/after picture....

And look what happened while out driving today :)

So after hexing myself by posting on here that my turbo was grannnnnnd ;) it went into limp mode again about 4 times in the space of a week (all overboost i.e. sticking vanes). Dropped it off last week and had turbo removed and sent off to Tom Cooney in portlaoise (best in Ireland for turbo rebuilds). New VNT mechanism, bearings etc. Also had bushings replaced as car was "jittery" when driven, now perfect. Full service at the same time.

Then put 2 new Goodyear F1 Asym2 (€160 a corner fitted/balanced) on the back as they were pretty much bald. Need to get the front 2 done next week and get the CV inner boot on the left replaced...get it done at the same time.

Have to say its driving beautifully now. Amazing the difference new rears make on a FWD car and it wasn't even wet today.

Next on the list....
2 x Goodyear F1 Asym2 on the front
CV inner boot
4 wheel laser alignment
Put the black optics grille on that's been sitting in the shed
Change fogs for a "whiter" light
Interior needs a good clean and the leather treated
Rear MY11 LEDs (I may eventually be able to get these without having to pay for something else with the money!!)
Alloy refurb

MY11 lights need prioritising - one of the most effective changes you can make IMO: and probably the most noticeable things on your car as far as age goes at the moment.

FB/MFSW and the newer climate control unit (if the fit) would make a big difference to the interior.
