another ****** thing gonenoise coming from somewhere

hi have been to the garage today as i have had a knocking noise coming from somewhere, jacked it up and he has said the noise is coming from the steering rack and it either needs a new one or reconditioned, whats your thoughts on this is it an easy job to do or a complete pig many thanks matt
 
get a second opinion first mate last thing u want to do is pay for a new system and still have it knocking afterwards and end up being something else have u checked all ur bushes and made sure none of ur shocks are leaking or damaged?
 
yes mate took it to mot garage had it on one of those rigs where it pulls the balljoints and shafts about and the only audible noise was from steering rack
 
well if they are 100% sure thats the case then start looking on ebay for one or look here for someone whos breaking a s3 mate hope it all goes well for ya
 
also check the steering rack bushes mate that may of failed and started to knock
 
not sure what to do go to the breakers and risk it or get a reconditioned unit
 
would it only knock on the one side with bushes
 
Well if they are worn it might have u check ur power steering fluid aswell?
