Hi fellas,

my rear brakes were low and grinding a little about 2 months ago, so i replaced discs/pads everything seemed ok til about 2 weeks ago when i noticed a grinding sound checked the rears and found that the pad doesn't seem to be making full contact to the disc??

just wondering if anyone has a similar experience with their rear brake disc/pads wearing like this

mine hasn't worn like that.

was the pads fitted correctly ?

cheap parts ?

yeah pads went in like a dream, both sides flat to disc. i didn't use OEM parts but went for Pagid from euro car parts.

I think it can be normal, pistons are at one end and thus the squeeze isn't exactly square and the side nearest the piston gets squashed first causing a slight wear unbalance.

probably means the car doesnt get driven much or the brakes arent used very much.

I notice my front brakes go like that if i've only driven around town and left the car sitting about for a while. A proper drive tends to clean them up again.

+1. I have to give a bit of help with the handbrake to clear the surface rust of the back discs if the car has been sitting for the week and that's with recent rear calipers, discs and pads. Don't think the rear brakes do too much under normal braking to be honest.

are they sticking at all?

if not, id try some extreme bedding in. do a few harsh stops from 70 to 10mph, but dont stop rolling.

Cheers for your replies guys,

thing is i use it everyday, probably 70-100miles a day(except weekends). i will try a couple of clicks on the handbrake and then emergency stops and see if it clears.

@ sportstractor what do you mean by sticking?

I mean binding, as in, are the breaks binding. For example when you let off the hand brake they stay stuck to the disc until you force the car. Mine was doing this as it was the sliding pins that needing sorting. Mine were so bad that the car wouldn't roll back on a slight hill! Currently in the garage being rectified.
