It seems I have to top up my coolant level approx every 8-10 weeks so am wondering if there is an obvious leak somewhere or is it impossible to diagnose without getting someone to have a good look under the bonnet.

I was thinking could it be the water pump needs changing and maybe cambelt as I'm not sure if this has ever been done.
The car has done 62k miles and I have owned it for 9 months.

When I top up the coolant with water it is usually below the min level so I just top up back to the max level.

Cheers, Dan.

could be a number of things
1 thing id look at cos your not looseing to much
check the cap sometimes the rubber seal goes leting it steam out
and use proper antifreeze not just water

Thanks Bez will check that out and make sure I get some anti-freeze from now on.

I would not waste antifreeze at this time of year until you find the leak which seems to need sorting soon .If you cant find anything obvious it s best to get a pressure check

Thanks Mike B. Is that a water system pressure check?
Do you know where I can get this done and approx cost?

most garages should do the preasure testing
where are u from ?

I had the same thing if you put your hand down the back of the engine there is your temp sender in a plastic housing in a T shape thats where mine was leaking from. They have o rings that can leak i replaced the lot bit of a pain of a job no space. And my local audi garage did a pressure test for nothing just turned up and asked to borrow a technician for a min.

Cheers slim

Check S/B cheap.Do you hear any pressure release when you undo the cap?If not that confirms a leak. Its worth looking around for the staining which is a sign if theres a leak from a pipe or round the rad.Once had a leak from a crack at the back of the plastic res which you could only see if it was lifted away from its mounting.

I guess about 30mins labour cost will depend on who you go to.But you ought to have a good look yourself .Maybe you can see some steam if you get the engine hot .. but dont take the cap off then. Also check the oil filler cap for any creamy deposit.HOw many miles between top ups which I guess are up to a litre.Any sign of white vapour in the exhaust?
