Hi,

Anyone know if the flashy looking heater in an '02 B6 can be 'reprogrammed' to provide any temperature between 'lo' and 18deg C? A lot of the time I just can't get a comfortable temp in the car. About 15deg would be nice...

Cheers, Paul.

dont know

but 15°c are you mad!!! mine is set at 21 in this weather

No it can't. The B6 a/c is regarded as being inefficient, 18c is too warm for most in the summer. The B7 climate unit goes to 16c and is a straight swap, given a simple little mod for the heated rear screen.

Or buy a convertible.....no need to worry about aircon lol

yes i have noticed in mine that 18°c is too warm i always thought it could be down to needing a regas?

It might be, but my blows plenty cold enough on LO, it just seems an audi 18c is warmer than everyone elses 18c..

If your B6 goes to 16 it has had a B7 unit fitted at some point and a wiring loom mod carried out.....

mine sounds the same as yours to be honest plenty of cold air at LO but not cold enough at 18°c

Thanks for getting back guys. Guess I'll stick to switching the heater on and off as required, as soon as the weather warms up a bit. Seems a shame with such a sophisticated looking unit. Function following form I reckon. I see later A4 models have reverted back to the old 3 nob system as featured on my old Audi 80, and most other cars...

Thanks again, Paul.

Really?

I think digital climate control is still preferable. All the dial does is adjust the temp the same as a digital 'button'.

Yeah, mm sure you're right re the knobs still controlling a digital system, but at least knobs are easier to use without taking your eyes off the road...

Glad I read this I was convinced I had a busted system, my Air Con is running tip top on 'LO' but on 18C the fans are what I would consider to be warm, pretty frustrating, been setting the right channel to Lo and mine at 18c and trying to balance the temp assuming it was broken and I needed to look into it. Bobbins!

I think the B7 unit sounds better 16 / 17c is what I'm all about too :sign_unfair:

I have to open the window, my aircon doesnt work, regassed but still nothing. But I have the luxury of heating at 16-17 degrees. lol.

Quick Q guys, my wifes heater stays the same temp at pretty much all degress, 18 is very warm, not 18 warm. Any ideas, already scanned and no codes were present.

just open the window,

Too simple, plus the wind would ruffle my feathers....

And people may hear me crying out loud whilst listening to my ultimate Whitney CD.

mines still fairly cold at 18/19/ and 20 starts getting warmer my misses have 24-25 ish all the time... feels like a steamer room lol

I got a 54 a4 sport tdi b6, and by looks of it have a b7 heater module ! It starts from low, then 16 Degrees and up, and i'm pretty sure it's never been modded, perhaps they started to include b7 modules in the b6 a4 just before the 2005 b7 was to be released? But yeah it's pretty annoying getting the temp just right, I prefer a manual one ( laugh away )

Oh and James I now have the de-misting problem you had a couple years ago, what a pain !! Going to be taking the glovebox out to have a little look, hoping it can be solved with wd40 but then again sounds identical to everyone else's problem- the motor dying :S know of any good breakers ? As audibreakers.com seems non existant now but ill be doing my research

By pressing LOW does this automatically engage Air con?? I def have it , just not sure what button to press -

Low brings the sir con compressor on yes, but not in this weather. Need to be above about +6 degrees. Also, the units were changed over from Nov 2004 onwards. So some B6's got in on the action.

The later B6's might well come with the different module, I'm not sure on that one.

There was a thread recently where a guy stripped down the motor and regreased the mechanism to good effect, well worth a try.

My 04 has the 16 module and no trace of any mod.Its more efficient than my previous 53 18 car and seems to allow the aircon to demist inside even when its almost freezing outside.I have put some foam insulation on the exposed pipes in the engine bay cos they get very cold and I assume this helps the efficiency

Got the glove box off today, recognised the green arms thanks to people's uploaded pics on here, I fiddled a little but and it started working again, it did make a ticking noise being stuck before this when attempting to open the de-mist flaps/fans.
I sprayed with WD-40 as you did James, tried it then over 20 times and it worked every time, may have been stuck but you thought the same until proven wrong lol. So that's that sorted, for now. Next up glovebox replacement, the latch inside the glovebox isn't working, and a hinge is broken off, I'm guessing just the glovebox Door + 2 new hinges should do, got to contend with those annoying pins which hold the hinges in tho...

If you look in the DIY guides sticky there are guides for mending the hinges, and also how to open the lid when the catch is broken.

had a good look around can see the post with fixing the hinges this is v useful, I can't find the lid repair though? Sorry to be a pain anyway to post the link here? cheers
