Since the weekend I have noticed a knocking noise whilst driving, usually at speeds of around 20-40 mph, but not when doing 70mph on the motorway.

It is a knock knock knock, coming from the near side front, thought it was something in the glove box but it isn't that. Is it a shock or suspension problem?

i was thinking hooker in the boot till you said front end
could be 1 of the arms

The hooker in the boot died weeks ago, she stinks but she beats buying a boot tidy any day of the week.

Oh right, an arm eh, expensive job?

well if its a arm theres 2 lower 2 upper and that c shaped link things
they have gone on me a few times prety cheap for them and easy to fit
when ever iv had probs with the arms iv changed them as a kit all 10

I will find a local garage and get an estimate, not taking it to Audi in case they charge me for the hooker.

I have a noise on mine too ,only happens at low speed when i'm pulling on and off my drive ,we had a quick look recently when i had thefront spring plates changed, all the bolts were seized solid ,took mark(byzan) ages to free everything off,but we couldn't see anything obvious.Bez how much are the parts if you change the set?and where did you get them, dealer, ebay?,cheers Andy

I took it into the garage this week, they checked the car over and cannot find anything wrong with it.

What they reckon is that when I had my phone kit fitted the guy took out the dash. As the car is a convertible and not as structurally secure as a non convertible the car has become less rigid and the knocking noise is coming from the dash or the glovebox.

So I have got to put up with this noise. ******!

Probably the control arms - mine have just gone but on the ramp, you can't tell - the suspension needs to be under tension.

Take a wheel off & pry against the control arms with a pole of some description to see if there is any play in the bushing.

The knocking noise is getting worse. The Bosch service centre had it for a day and say there is nothing wrong with the car.

They say it is the dashboard and that there is nothing I can do as they are not solid built chassis coz it is a convertible.

Anyone got any ideas??

Check the Anti Roll bar connecting links from the bar to arm. Have known these fail on many cars and give a knocking noise at low speed. I usually take them off to check as you only need a very small amount of play to cause quite a lot of noise.

one place i would check is the strut
reason is
iv got a golf gti bad knocking from pass side front
all arms checked bushes top mounts etc etc nothing wrong
jack car up and grab the plunger on the strut see if theres any play in it
worth a look

Sounds a bit daft this, but have you checked the wheel nuts are tight/ My mate came round with a knocking noise on his and the wheel was loose. The guy who painted the wheels didn't tighten one of them up!

worth a look?

Just for reference, my knocking is still there after swapping all the control arms, drop links, etc.

I've ordered a new top mount bush as that seems like the only other thing it could be, other than a dead shock absorber.

Should have it fitted and fixed this coming weekend - fingers crossed it's just the bushing! :)

Solved it!

Opened passenger door wide and noticed that there is painted metal against painted metal knocking against each other at the back of the bottom door hinge.

Sprayed some grease onto it, and hey presto! It is ****** perfect now!

Looks like me and ultramodz are now experts in knockers.
