I recently went to look at an a6 which had had a new engine fitted it was a 2litre tdi 2006 , the guy told me this was because the engine blew because of a well known fault with the standard oil pump, the new engine had a modified oil pump fitted, I have never heard of this as i am still looking to buy an a6, is this true or was he telling me a load of c**p. will look forward to your replies.

yes mate unfortunately its very true search this site there is loads of posts about the dreaded 2.0 tdi oil pumps .i am after buying a newish a6 avant i would love the 2.0 for the economy but there are far too many horror stories so i am looking for the 2.7 tdi such a shame

Post facelift (ie MY2009 onwards) 2.0TDi cars have a different engine to the earlier cars. In the later models there are two 2.0TDi engines one rated at 136bhp and one at 170bhp. The earlier cars have an engine rated at 140bhp. As I understand the oil pump problem does not affect these latter cars

Thanks for that, but would fitting the uprated oil pump not solve the problem, and do Audi not contribute towards the repairs if the car has been serviced at recommended intervals, or are they like the rest and say its not a problem.
