These I have been wanting for years - had similar on my old car. The R8 devil lights.
Well now there's a new MOT law out (that sucks) will these fail the MOT doesn't say anything about these being HID or Xenon. Someone was selling a pair said there Halogen bulbs.. Are these aloud?

Not going to buy them if I've goto start fitting none manufacturing thing cleaning devices, stupid really thought they wanted to keep cars standard? This will apply as a modification and rise car insurances even more!

What is this world coming to :(

Advert everywheres says MOT accepted and there LED

What's this new law you speak of ? :readit:

The new MOT law (supposedly! Still not heard of anybody failing it yet!) only applies to the actual bulb being HID. Its more aimed at the people running HID's in reflector lenses rather than projectors. The lights you posted are projectors, so you will be fine to install them how they come.

However, you will probably find the light output with a normal halogen bulb is awful. Thats why many people upgrade to HID's. If you stick to 4300k or 6000k, you should still be ok at the MOT (as long as the tester is a total jobsworth!). The most important thing is to check they are properly aligned, then you have no reason to be hassled by either the MOT man, or the police (or flashed by other drivers!)

I thought there was a 6 month grace period on the changes being mandatory

Read it more carefully. It States if hid's are retrofitted you must also have auto self Levelling fitted. This prevents dazzling other drivers when you have heavier loads in the car(rear passengers etc) so not just manual adjust, it has to be an automatic system, in theory I you havent got it, it's an automatic fail

yeah if there standard and have an autolevel on em there fine its for people fitting non standard hids to there cars that will fail the mot cos they cant sort themselves out... i think thts it!

It isn't standard, and I have auto levelling adjuster but weather or not those lights work with my automatic adjuster I don't kno - the ones for my Peugeot didn't work with the auto adjuster :-S dont really want to spend £300 and I get pulled for them.

This stupid law is really going to affect a few industries lol

the stupid law will most likley prevent more accidents too

too many people put these super bright lights in their car without doing it correctly, as a motorcycle rider there have been numerous times when i have had 0 visibility because some **** with HIDs has decided to fit them to a car with no projector lense or automatic levelling

they are dangerous, even more so in the wet and on unlit roads

Its been law for some time just not part of the MOT test iirc... its a requirement for a car manufacturer when supplying a vehicle to the UK with HIDS/Xenon/Gas discharge headlights that a washing mech and auto levelling be installed... Lexus got pulled up for it some time back when they fitted sporty bumpers as an option in the UK to some of their cars and neglected to fit washers (original cars had them fitted)...

The switch you have for adjusting the lights is not an auto levelling system its a manual one... this sort of system is widely fitted to cars but is not technically legal for HIDs etc...

As colicabcadam has already mentioned (albeit in his usual flamboyant manner) what this MOT requirement will hopefully do is remove the select few that fit HIDs to normal headlight systems and blind everyone on the road...

Check out the VOSA website, the full testing manual is on there and available for anyone to look at,
Regarding aftermarket Hid's, the headlamp aim and beam pattern must be correct and , the headlamp leveling and headlamp washers must work if they are fitted.
