My glovebox light appears not to be working.

Changed the bulb to no effect. Normally there on the same fuse as a cigarette lighter of which is still lighting up here so a bit unsure ..

Anybody know which fuse it is or if theres a common fault here?

Its a 2003 and i don't have footwell or puddle lights.

Can i also confirm i have the following right

2 front 42mm festoon
2 front 501 wedge for maps
1 front 501 wedge for glovebox
2 rear 501 for maps
2 36mm festoon for boot light
2 36mm festoon for number plate

If you remove the end of the dash on the passenger side then you'll see the damper mechanism for the glovebox lid which incorporates the switch for the light. These are a bit fragile so it's worth checking that everything is ok there.

Any tell tale signs for it being broken? Or just a blatantly obvious snap?

Does cover just pop off?

Cover pops off.

The damper has removable pins either end, take it off and just check the switch is making contact correctly.

Does glovebox have to come off or can i just take the damper off?

Is this a long **** job aswell?

I don't think you'd need to take the glovebox out. You should certainly be able to check the action of the damper by just popping the end off the dash.

Glovebox out is an easy job anyway, only take you a few minutes.

Not really as the other thread was incorrect .. the ones i checked havnt been the same .. think easiest way is to get em out and compare as i buy ..

do i need CANBUS for interior?

Heres the culprit .. the ****** hinge wasn't even attached!

No pin! also had to superglue a bulb into the housing as the housing was all snapped to pieces so i hope the bulb doesn't blow lol!

Ive temporarily wacked a nail in there but obv need a permanent nut and bolt solution. PITA!

Oh and I've stuck on some vaseline to lube it up as its all i had but its done a poor job and the whole box is very stiff to open now!

Riggggght.

For anybody else wanting to fix/do this "mod"

Im a technical ******. james I'm sure will agree after our email exchange.

Anyway.

Glovebox out literally 5 bolts and 20 seconds.

Twist and pull damper off (Its obvious when you can see it) - i drilled a big hole in one end and then squirted enough WD40 inside to lubricate a bus and then re assembled.

Rather than using Audis plastic pin - i bought an M4 20mm nut and bolt from b&q and fitted that .. did the nut up tight and bobs your uncle ;)

Glovebox light works a treat & the glovebox still opens and closes freely and quietly.
