Hey folks,

Just a quick update to say I had my car (03 Avant Sport) remapped yesterday by Euro Performance Ltd - VW AUDI Specialists South Wales, Service, Repair and Performance and to say im pleased, is an understatement :hubbahubba:

The car feels so right - I was happy with the performance prior to the remap, but it did feel a bit thin in the torque occasionally, and was'nt really exciting to drive.... but now it feels complete, plenty of torque thru the rev range, and feels like a bigger engine tbh, and you know when the turbo is on song too - still incredibly smoooooooooth, but now a lot stronger :arco:

Ive had lots of cars where I always said "i'll get a remap done soon ..." but I cant believe the difference its made for such a modest outlay - genuinely, if you're considering a remap, then just find a good specialist and take the plunge - you wont regret it

Another remap fan here!

Stand by for coil pack number 1 to go awry. Both mine and my brothers Leon 1.8t lost the number 1 coil pack within a week or two of being remapped!

I'm sure it's just coincedence, but strange all the same!

agreed my pd130 is like a steam train now on a mission best money ive ever spent

Hmmmm, is it a definate that they will fail or just coincidence given the extra strain / excitement from driving harder with more power >

Tbh, our car is used daily for commuting and school runs, so it wont be driven hard - hopefully they'll be just fine :)

I'll give Audi a call tomorrow so see if mine is due for the coilpack upgrade - fingers crossed its a yes and they dont mess with the ECU

They shouldn't touch the ECU to change the coil packs.

Yours isn't guaranteed to suffer the same as mine/my brothers, of course not, but it's worth carrying a spare in the boot anyway. They're an easy change, coil pack number 1 is nearest the cambelt.

I've read about remaps exposing a weak coil pack a few times now, but clearly there must be far more who don't suffer any problems. My coil packs were 6 years old, and my brothers 4 years old when they went.

I totally agree. Like you I felt the 190 had 'decent' performance before, but it was lacking in torque. The useability factor post remap is the most striking thing, it does feel like it has a responsive 2.5 litre in there or something. I was fishing for the right gear for best performance before, but now the power comes in so much lower down in the rev range that the little kick you need for a motorway overtake is right there without stirring through the gears.

A remap on the 1.8T has to be one of the best post production mods going. You can't quite place everything that's better about it, it just sounds, feels and drives like the car it always should have been.

Now all you want now is a Free flow Cat and Turbo exhaust..

Gareth @ Euro Performance, and the team there are great to be fair, had loads of work done with them in the past and would reccomend them to anyone.

Couldnt have put it better myself :)

You're a very bad man - but you're right :p

They're simply excellent, I couldnt agree more !

I was referred to them by a friend, and Im so glad I took the chance, as I already used a few decent garages for MOT's / Servicing / Maintenance etc ... but Euro Performance are on another planet, very affordable and knowledge and customer service is 2nd to none...

Im 100% confident in referring any friends, family or clients to them as I know they will be looked after and will leave very happy - and its good to support a small local business :)

Did you have it rolling roaded? Whats the claimed bhp?

I didn't have it rolling roaded, just road tested and tweaked til was optimal :)

I discussed figures with them before and they said that typically, the 1.8T 190 responds well, and can make around 225bhp - but they did explain that absolute bhp is not important, they aim for a nice smooth torque curve, which tbh is exactly what I wanted...

In all fairness tho, I dont care if my A4 is still only making 190bhp - Im just concerned with how it drives and behaves in the real world, and thats where the extra torque becomes relevant - it feels like you're driving a 200bhp Turbo now :yahoo:

My old Alfa 156 2.0 TS felt faster than my 190, and that had 150bhp ... But now, with the new software, my 1.8T feels really quick when pushing on - just as quick as my old V70 T5 (2.3T 240bhp) - but I'm getting much better fuel economy (T5 gave me 18mpg - I get around 30mpg on the A4)

Do you think it's worth while updating the DV and air filter ? If so, what's a good option ...

Cheers in advance :)

Forge 007p seems to be the recirculating dump valve of choice, I'll be upgrading to this and going for a cat-back exhaust system too when funds allow.
I would also like to know whether a cone filter or drop in foam/cotton filter is the best for a 'mapped car.

Highly recommend a Forge 007p and a panel filter (i have pipercross), the filter will be the best £35 you spend gives it a nice little rumble when your havin a play on the motorway and the forge dv will hold the boost better than the standard bosch one and give you a slight woooossssshhhhhh noise.

There is a new forge one out 008 but i have no experience of this yet it may possibly be a future upgrade for mine if its worth it, i know a few of the S3 guys are starting to buy the upgraded version....

lets hope the 008 has a little extra swooosh than the nearly silent 007 lol

Next step is a turbo-back exhaust to get a life before 2500rpm. Very useful in rondabouts on 2:nd gear when follow the queue in low speed. This was why I remapped my car but not solved by the program. Milltek complete turbo-back did.
OEM cat and downpipe are very restrictful of the perfomance and will most likely harm the Turbo and oil. The Turbo is much cooler with the Milltek Turbo-back exhaust.

Maybe you'll feel an uneven power when flooring the pedal, surging power from 3500-4000 rpm to 5500. Overboost spikes. Very common issue and solved by the Boost control Valve N75. I did as many others, installed N75J (std N75F). This valve is slower in the reaction, give a slightly higher initial boost spike when flooring the pedal, after that no problem.

I recommend to replace the weak Turbo Inlet hose too. This is probably another reason to bad responce when the hose can collapse or at least flex. I installed Evolution Racewerks metal pipe which works very well. 1.8T Turbo Inlet Pipe (TIP) | "B6.5 A4 (03-05)" fits the BEX engine.

Next very cheap upgrade is to replace the rear sway bar. Buy OEM RS4-B7 rear Sway bar (22mm) for small money (less than 150€). Much better handling.

All remapped A4 1.8T Quattro have a weak flywheel. It will vibrate a lot around 2800-3400rpm from 3:rd gear and up if you push the pedal too much. It's not possible to enjoy the wonderful torque the remap has given the engine.
It's massive Flywheel and better clutch that is the solution.

It's rather difficult to find a heavy duty Flywheel-clutch kit for 1.8T BEX engine and 6-speed gearbox. A company in Sweden has different kits with flywheel (240mm) and clutch from 450Nm. OEM is 228mm
DLI-TEKNIK
Rates: ~11.35SEK = 1£, ~9.35SEK=1€ [FOREX]

450Nm will be my choice when it can withstand a future turbo upgrade like a GT28RS which will provide around 300-320Hp and 430Nm according to links with upgrade kits.
About 300hp is possible with std engine parts, no need of internal upgrades according to the sites I have read.

what sort of power change would i see with a remap on my 100bph tdi the tork is 260 or some thing i think as staderd

Upgrade of my earlier post above.......

I have replaced the N75J valve with N75E. Part no: 06A906283E

N75J gave very delayed power in 2-3 steps when flooring the pedal with a too high boost spike. I went to the VAG dealer for a new original N75F. I got an N75E which has replaced the F. Result: much quicker and smoother reply from the engine during acceleration compared with N75J. The upgrade for my engine was the rigid metal TIP, not change to N75J that is common when reading posts in various forums. My first N75F might have been faulty too.

I've had mine remapped, and I'm really pleased to be honest, but I think I could do with another SMIC now, because I think it gets to hot now and loses a little power.

The car feels much more responsive, but I'm now thinking of bolting the bigger KO4 on and fitting a FMIC... for the £300 it'd cost it would make a massive difference.

But then again, do I save the money and buy an S4 at the end of the year.....

just got a set of 380 cc tt injectors soon be time for stage 2 remap, teh injectors are the limiting factor on these engines..
