Found a boost leak, check your S3 now!

I've had a boost leak for ages and haven't been able to track it down, new clips, hoses removed and inspected but nothing... And then I checked the hard pipe that goes between the two intercoolers and there were no less than 3 small holes where the mounting sections meet the hard pipe! I've filled them with chemical metal for now and will be taking the whole pipe off today in case there is another one about to break through, but go check yours now!!!!
 
The LCR's use an alloy one of these ironically...

Good info though... always forget about this pipe having removed mine a long time ago and it becomes obsolete when you fit a FMIC of some description...

Thats actually a good shout, im going to check mine as ive noticed alot of rust etc on that and a few other metal pipes around that area.
 
The LCR pipe looks different though tufty :) there's no antennas on it which is the bit that has rusted :(
 
Off topic, that hard pipe which joins the 2 smic's, mine is still in there even though i took the smic's out and replaced with a forge fmic. Will that affect anything?
 
I left mine in because the pas pipe is bolted to it. Suppose you could make up brackets? ?
 
I don't think it makes any difference though and i haven't had any problems with it. I'll just leave it as it is!

Can't remember off hand tbh as I never really paid it that much attention... all I know is the Audi ones are steel and LCR's are alloy... I took mine off as its not structural and not needed with a FMIC

The LCR pipe is mounted differently to an s3/tt version. The LCR one doesnt bolt to each chassis leg iirc, it is literally just a link pipe with some big 'p' clips to hold it in place.

Yeah, just had a look at the Forge FMIC fitting instructions for the LCR kit and it shows the pipe being removed.... damn those lightweight SEATS with their Brembo brakes and uprated bushes!!!... not got AWD though (in this country at least)! ;P

Lol. Also no rattling trim and panels made from recycled wheely bins and washing machines that dent by breathing near them!

Are you sure about this Tuffty? While not 100% structural I always thought that pipe sevred as a chassis brace linking the two front chassis legs together, I think the way it mounts to the legs looks a little more than to just support its weight & also 180hp TTs have them fitted but without being connected to any intercoolers so the only reason I could think they were there when not being used as a boost pipe was to brace the front legs?

Yep, pretty damn sure... the thing is made of far too thin a material to be useful and A3's, Golfs and Leons survive happily enough without it... if it was that structural then why isn't the LCR one bolted in rather than 'P' clipped to the front panel...

R32's and 4mo's don't have it fitted and they're the same chassis.
