Anyone knows about 2G? Can we enable the oil temp meter? Or there is no oil temp for 2G? Thanks

There are several fora and websites which give info on how to access the hidden menu to activate other nice features however I found that the most widely publicised method didn't appear to work for me so after some googling and lots of reading I found an owner called Mike with a similar issue who had found a different method which he's kindly shared and I thought I post here for all in case you want it and to save searching.

Firstly the secret menu must be enabled with VCDS beforehand.

[5F - Information Electr.]
[Adaptation - 10] -> Channel 6 -> Change 0 to 1
Save and Exit.

Next -

Press/Release car (turns red)
Press/Release setup (turns red)
Press/Hold car & setup at same time for approx 6 seconds (setup button red light goes out)
Release both buttons then press setup again.

To exit the Hidden Menu you need to restart the MMI -

Press and hold down the function keys (Setup), the control button (Joystick centre button) and the control key at the top right simultaneously until the MMI system shuts down. Release the keys and the MMI system reboots.

Tapping the wealth of knowledge on here............what is the function of 3G ? Is it a standard fit or only available with BT and or Sat Nav ? Trying to suss what goodies to look out for when I eventually see the right car ..........................Soon I hope

3G simply refers to the MMI being the 3rd Generation. It's not a function in itself.

You get better screen resolution, quicker response, 3D images on the Satnav etc etc

3G came in with the MY2010 models around July 2009. Beware that even if you buy a car with satnav after this date it may not be the full thing as the DVD based satnav was still available. The easiest way to tell is ;

Non satnav car :

2G Satnav cars have the MMI rotaty controller down by the arm test.

3G satnav cars have a little thumb joystick on the top of the MMI rotary controller.

Cheers scoTTy that has cleared the fog a bit ! I think I have a hell of a lot to get to grips with here LOL. The car I have come across is an 09 but not sure how far in to 09 it was registered/manufactured, have e-mailed the dealer to ask so lets hope he know what it is !!!

This is the interior I am thinking it is only a 2G unit!?

Hard to tell from that pic. You should be aware that the changes for the MY2010 cars were quite a lot. At least a lot more in any year before or since. Check out this document :

Personally I'd try and get the later car due to the benefits not least the quieter wing mirrors.

Not sure what the above one is though. I suspect an earlier car based on the glimpse of the mirrors. Also since it's a manual, if it's a 2.0T or a 2.0TDI then it's an earlier car as the later ones have Stop/Start and a button under the coin holder (the slot thing near the gear shift).

I'd say it's MY2009 but during transition there's always a few off build cars.

Simple thing is to ask the dealer ;)

He confirmed it is a 2G model, not sure if it is possible to "upgrade " to 3G ? If that is possible then could be a green for go

Technically it is but financially it isn't. Once you've thrown the £3k+ at it then it's obviously worth just buying a newer car.

3K !!! That's a lot of Tom Toms LOL....... I get the picture now thanks for the heads up scoTTy..............again

Anyone can help my question above ? i am still looking for this SDS function , thanks

Do you which MMI is fitted to you car is it 3G or 2G? Can you access controller 07

If you don't have navigation then you won't be able to access the 5F module as it will not be fitted to your car.

It's only for MMI 3G systems, that have navigation with the 5F module installed.

Dear all,

I have installed rnse to audi a4/b7 2008. I cannot do coding on 77 telephone. Vcds cannot see this option. I bought BT modul. My car has mfsw. How can I activate that option? How can I use mfsw?

Thanks many

as far as I am aware, RNS-E is not compatible with the B8 cars - or at least it was never fitted to any from factory

Hi Gents,

I am a new owner of a 2013 Audi A4 B8. I just wanted to find out about the topic at hand. You say after you accessed the VIM you able to watch a video displaying on the on board screen.

Do you have to have a Navi installed or can this feature be added in without any extras being fitted?

Does the normal display play the videos 100%?

Concert & Symphony units will not play any dvd's or video files. If you you have MMI 3G then it will play DVD's but not movies of the SD. If you have MMI 3GP then you can play both DVD's & movies off an SD card.

Movies played from an SD card will only work if they are encoded with the correct resolution & frame rate.

We need to know what system you have,
