Honeycomb grill installed with pics!

the S3 FK grill on mine is nice but is starting to flake a bit at the bottom and has the typical stone chips on the grill though not that noticeable unless you actually look for it, If you have a close look at the bottom of the grill by the middle slats you can see the flaky bit

i am planning on masking off the chrome and respraying the grill black but am finding it hard to find the time right now. might have the bodyshop respray it when the car goes in to get the door repaired and the front bumper resprayed.

I am still a bit on the fence about the Honeycomb grill as it looks nice but then does not match the fogs at all... would love to have the fog grills honeycomb too!

I agree about the fog surrounds.

It's something I'm looking into :shutup2:

It has been done already, can't remember where I've seen it.

It's similar to the 8P3 S3 fog surrounds, where the honeycomb is behind the plastic bar.

Still trying to work out if there's a different option though, more similar to the 8P2 S3:think:

Don't the pre-facelift S3's have honeycomb fog surrounds?

Yes, but won't fit an S Line grill, otherwise it'd be the quickest mod ever! Lol

Looks very nice, especially on the black car!

I have an FK grille which has a smaller honeycomb design, also quite nice. Sprayed it matte black though because the FK stuff looks a bit cheap with their glossy plastic, or it did on this particular one anyway...

Cheers mate.

Yeah, I saw the FK mesh grill when looking to do mine, is yours the one with the horizontal bars at either side of the 4 rings?

Yup, that's the one, here's a pic I took yesterday when I put it back on after the plasti dip spray...

Still not sure about it, but will leave it on for a while and see how I feel. Will probably try and find the RS6 style like yours at some point as well... :p

Looks very tidy, I like it:thumbsup:

Theres a gap at the top of the grill which is why its been said that the RS4 grill doesn't quite fit properly

I'm not keen on the mesh below the grill and the honeycomb is too big on the fog surrounds IMO

Any reason why the top two rows of the grill have the mesh filled in?

How hard is it to do the RS4 / RS6 grill conversion and which is best to use ? As it sets the car off

Im toying with doing this is someone gives me some advice on it lol

The RS4 doesn't really fit properly

As far as I'm aware, Mattandrew and AshB are the only 2 on ASN to do the RS6 mod. Apparently you remove the honeycomb mesh from the RS6 grill, trim it and take ur S3 grill apart, replace the slatted piece with the RS6 mesh.

Don't quote me on that though! All I can say is, having seen Matts in the flesh, it looks amazing.

My car is Black im going for a whole Black car with a few lime green bits on like wheel nut covers and rings but want my car completly black

Prob best to wrap the chrome (on ur new grill) if u can, will last longer.

Get some pics up when done :)

i like that looks top to be fair but one thing i dont like is the fact the top few holes are not open like the rest of the grill doesnt look right get a dremel in the and cut them out , i wish they did a grill like these for my ccar the early split grill model but i know they do honeycomb for the C5 RS6 anyone know if they will fit my car lol

You don't really notice them unless ur up close and crouched down. I did consider firing up the dremel, but thought I'd wait and see how it looked. I'm happy to leave it as it is for now.

any 8p3 with this grill. or anyone want to photoshop mine

Right getting really confused now over what fits what. I take it that an RS4 grill will fit a pre-facelift S3 front end even though with the slight gap at the top. My car is the same as the black version in thread #41 and I want it to look like the red car in thread #41 but with chrome surround......RS4 grill????

The reason being I now have the go ahead from BEAR Scotland to get my car repaired after the little mishap with the digging machine, obviously at their expense so I have smoothed it out with the body shop that I want a new grill but not the direct replacement.

I will be keeping the old parts so there will be a S3 grill up for grabs if anyone wants it.....with NO damage on it. I will keep you all posted.

Yep just noticed the difference.....soz about that. I think that honeycomb grill would look real nice on the front of my S3....would match the fog surrounds aswell. Would the chrome outer fit easily onto the honeycomb one or would plain black look better????? Dilemmas eh!!!

Right decison made........gonna see if I can get the chrome version. The ebayer seller did have them but none now. Hopefully he will get back to me with an answer today and then I give this to the Audi bodyshop when the car gets booked in.

not seen an aftermarket grill for S3 as its an inch shorter than standard. the only oprions i know you can do it either black optics grill, or loose the chrome vertical strips.
unless you want to go and hack a RS6 honeycomb grill and put it into the S3 grill like a couple that have here.

Hmmm, has anyone had a standard s3 grill painted black? I have looked on ebay for 6 months for a black optics grill for my pre facelift s3... never seen one.

Hi ive just finished my grill today, i know its been done before but the RS6 front looks fab. It was a bit of a pain to do but looks good hopefully. Sorry the car looks filthy but there has been a few inches of snow today and i had to use my car

Looks the biz mate.

Thought about painting the fog surrounds the same finish as the grill?

Not at the moment i will see after winter, as i might sell up next year. The colour match wont be to bad once cleaned and polished up

With all respect fella, that splitter ruins the look imho, just doesnt suit at all, it looks like it is, a bolt on job, doesnt give the original lines any justice.

that grill looks really nice! so you cut the RS6 grill and fitted it to the S3 surround?

i also agree with the splitter, doesnt look right on the S3 bumper, suits the S-Line bumper much more. maybe some light tint lamin x would go nicely on the blacked out look you have there?

I do love that grille looks amazing very nice work.

I like my splitter and when viewed from above it really follows the lines of the bumper, saying that you nearly got your wish yesterday with the snow lol. Each to thier own though

Remove the RS6 middle and then you have to cut your old grill up and fit it in. The RS6 grill needs quite a trim and a few inches off the bottom then mount your grill surround on it. A bit of a pain but just take it slow, took me about a day all in but bear in mind you have to let the paint dry on the crash bar at the front of the car ( as its silver and would show through). I left mine overnight

If you like it, then thats all that matters, but just an observation, how many people look at it from above fella :p

As the pic is, thats how its viewed by 99.9999% of people, it just doesnt look right at all on that bumper, but as said, sline may suit better, again, its just an innocent POV :)

I can't like this enough. Have you written about the process/photos?

Everyone having a view is what makes us all different, i just thought the front end needed something as i like the vortex front that was on a 3.2 V6 i had. But nothing was available for the S3 so i stuck within the group and came up with that.

Sorry i did not take any pics but there is a method on here or fourtitude (i think) telling you how to remove the front bumper which i followed, the only thing it did not mention was the headlight washers but these disconect easily. Then if your going to do it i can give you some general pointers etc
