Hi all, my suspension is standard with new shocks on the front and the only part i've uprated is all the bushes. I cant lower the ride hight as i wont get it up the drive, but i do want to reduce the body roll so i guess its the arb's? i've been thinking that the r32 setup is the way to go for reasonable cost. My questions are....... Do i have to go for a mk4 r32 or do the mk5 ones fit too My A3 is on a 99 plate. also, what would i need as well as the bars themselves? Would i need drop links too? , Mounts & Bushes ? And are they easy enough to do? are any special tools needed? any info appreciated

I have only fitted the rear ARB on mine. You need a mk4 R32 one the mk5 will not fit! They fit the same drop links so you don't need to change those.

I bought some poly bushes for mine. It was an easy fit IMO. You have to jack up one side so when it the ARB is undone it can slide out, theres two brackets holding it on. I had to loosen the exhaust shield so it slid all the way out. Very easy in all fairness.
 
R32 rear ARB will only fit A3 quattro it should be noted... FWD A3's are different at the back...

Fitting just a rear ARB of any kind won't minimise roll as such but makes the car more oversteery rather than the traditional understeer A3/S3's etc have...

The front will still roll about like a good un if you just change the rear...

If you have a FWD A3 then look at Prawns track car thread as his A3 is one of the most setup cars on here...

Fitting ARB's of a reasonable thickness front and rear will stiffen the ride but it should be noted that handling can suffer if you are still using std shocks and springs as the std shocks won't be able to cope very well... it can make the car more dangerous to drive...

There are a couple of threads in the stickies at the top to read to give you an idea of the pros and cons...

If you can't lower too much then decent dampers (Billy B8's etc) and a set of Eibach Pro springs are good comprmise as they don't lower by much...

My car has been transformed with just a rear ARB (on coilies) trouble with putting a front one on as well is you are introducing the under steer again..although stiffer
 
Thanks for th e advice guys, time for a re think then. Can you not get stiffer springs that don't lower the car?
 
Probably some custom ones. Smallest you`re likely to get are 25-30mm. Have seen 15mm before but for other models and makes so unsure whether they`d be available for yours.
 
Well i'll have a look around but ive put some metal plates under my front vallence to reduce scraping as i go onto my driveway.
 
I take it you have quite a steep driveway as it joins the road or something?
 
yes its stupid i lost the front valence off my corrado when i had it, think i should move, The pulsar was lowered so that had to go up on ramps. I just cant deal with lowering cars any more its just not worth the effort.
 
you don't need to slam it,you actually get better handling by dropping the car around 15mm.if I was in your position,get some coils fitted lower it a little then get a rear roll bar
 
was thinking most coilie kits state lowering from 20-100mm so if you can get away with 20mm you'll get the improved handlingwithout hitting the tarmac as you leave for work!
 
But im hitting the tarmac now! if lowered i'll be taking the pavement to work with me LOL
