Hi whats it like to remove the steering rack b5 1.8 t cheers

Well a total of 4 bolts hold the rack in place, The bolts holding the track rod ends to the upright can be sized. Other than that were are two pipes one going to the pas pump & the other going to the reservoir. It's not a hard job I did one in around 4 hours and that was my first one. You also need to remove the battery and tray from what I remember.

Cheers not to bad really mines dump fluid out the end seal going to the track rod

It's not has easy has it sounds bit of a Bast---d job really better 2 handed one pushing while the other pulls..

If you thought getting it out was bad try getting it back in..

I see you are from Bristol well there is a Specialist there that only replaces Steering Racks ideal for you..

I bought a Recon from them after sending them mine they all work on exchange basis even Audi..

You know they will do a great job and they are all pressure tested and all seals and gaiters replaced..

If you put a second hand one in you might be here again in a year or so..

You could do what I did give them yours and they will give you a recon in exchange and you can fit it if you want..

Do yourself a favour take it to them they are a good price fraction of the cost of Audi and go for a walk round the town when you come back it's all done for you..

If you want their name let me know but then you might be a sadist and want to do it yourself..
