What are people's opinions on superchips bluefin.

I have a 2.0 tdi 140 MY2010 so the benefit and what's drawing me towards the bluefin is that fact I can easily remove the map and pit the car back to standard for any services / warranty work. I did speak to a Audi service dept who said they would be able to tell that something might have been done but wouldn't know what or when.

Any other suggestions of other removable remaps?? Im not looking for an aggressive map don't want to put too much strain on the flywheel, turbo etc just want a bit more poke.

Thanks peeps :)

Listen to N8, Buddy. Was going to buy Bluefin myself, but ended up going for Shark Performance map instead with their STS handheld unit, so it gives me the same option to swap map back to standard as Bluefin does. Wouldn't swap it for anything now, Shark FTW!

I have Bluefin on my 2.0 tdi 170 (2007) and use have it on my old a3 2.0 tdi 140 (2004)
Had it on cars for 2 to 3years. Cant fault it.
Also it not aggressive map like what your looking for.

Thanks for the replies. I think im going to pop up to Milton Keynes at the weekend to the Superchip HQ see what they say. Shark does seem to be another option although quotes 185bhp which i think may be more than I want. Really want to minimize the strain caused.

Dantdi how did the 140 perform. Im assuming it was a PD engine as apposed to CR.

Won't put a "strain" on the engine its all down to how its treated and driven...

Good point. Ill do some more research and maybe be your first sale :p

I've had Blufin and Shark, I'd recommend Shark mate, it's so much better. You won't be disappointed.

Yes was the PD engine. Perform fine, Makes car more lively and much more fun to drive. Just gives bit more when want it. Uphills!!

Bluefin is sh*te, Had it on mine and only caused problems with DPF and tbh couldnt notice any power difference due to fact my DPF was constantly regenerating. What I did notice though was bit better lower end. Money wasted.

N8, any word on how much the Shark is yet? Looking at the site it's £499 for the 140 tdi, not sure that's the hand held but assume so.

Can anyone give an example of what the fuel economy benefit has been for them with both Bluefin & Shark (wonder if Bluefin is the dolphin about to be eaten by the Shark!)

Ta,

I've been reading up very old threads on different website about bluefins and other removable maps not resetting the "flash counter" and so when / if the Audi dealer flash the ECU they may void the warranty. The threads were all 2/3 years old can any removable devices reset the flash counter.

May reason I haven't a remap yet is I want to keep the warranty and don't want to risk it being voided

Mate I took mine in for it's first service last Tuesday, the dealer and mechanics independently asked me if I'd chipped it, I said no and they both asked me why the hell not! Then proceeded to tell me the benefits like I didn't already now!

Related a tale when one guy had it mapped and it went In for a recall on the management, they reset it obviously but we're not aware it was mapped in the first place so they don't look, if they wanted to find out I'm sure it's pretty obvious but they don't care at the end of the day unless somethings been damaged by the re programming and there looking for a reason not to pay for the fix themselves.

I'm sold on the idea, just need to decide where to thow my cash.

If you don't want to affect your warranty - why not get an audi dealer to remap it..

Yeh i did speak to the local dealer well a few of them. They dont do remaps themselves they have a company they call in from Milton Keynes "richter sport" and they provide the service however Audi wont honour any of the work if it does affect any of the engine components etc.

When I bought my S3 from an Audi dealer they said if they do it then used warranty is not affected!.. and yes they bring someone in to do it..

Thats interesting I see your from Bucks, same as me. What dealer was it that offered you this???

But what you need to remember is. If you book your car in because your passenger electric window stops working, Audi aren't going to go looking into your ECU!

Just checked with Superchips and you cannot get a Bluefin for the 2010 onwards model.

I have this very problem right now that I have a nosiy turbo and Audi know something has been done because the flash counter is at 2.

Really. I take it your car is mapped? What map do you have and what have Audi said they are doing about it covering it under warranty?

Ok thick question but what's a flash counter?

This is what i found whilst searching the web

"flash counter or ECU counter... This is increased when you upload your bluefin map, which makes it detectable by Audi if you take it in to the workshop. They can't see you have bluefin installed, but they can see that you have programmed the ecu, which could get you into trouble if you have something that needs to be fixed on guarantee."

Nothing has stopped and no engine lights have turned so nothing is wrong its just a noisy turbo and yes its mapped to 185BHP with a bluefin from Superchips.
