Hey all, my friend just bought a nice 2000 S3, hes looking at getting a remap. what basic mods should he do to get the most from it, car is standard apart from coilovers
I was thinking decat and panel filter.

he has 800 to spend including remap.

Thanks

Downpipe de-cat, jetex filter, tip, n249bypass, forge 007p dv I'd get intercooler too

it all depends on what he is looking for??? if its just a basic stage 1 map, then really all he needs is a decent panel filter and a forge 007p diverter valve.
but if he is thinking of a custom map then the list is endless, as above, would want a front mount intercooler, 3"downpipe and decat, a new forge/badger 5 TIP (turbo inlet pipe) and prob a cone filter to go with it.
with those and a trip to R-tech then he should see 260-270bhp, (if its a 225 model that is!)

^^why if its a 225 model??? All s3's tune to the same level, they all have the same hardware.

Is get. A map, badger5 turbo inlet pipe, and depending on how much cash I have left (map prices vary from place to place) a custom catback OR dp/decat

for 800 quid including the map....

Badger 5 TIP + Jetex
Forge 007p
n249 bypass (costs nothing except the price of some 4mm ID hose and some clips of some sort)

i would have thought that would take a fair chunk out of your budget alone, you will have some left though. But i would consider leaving it there and using your remaining budget to fix any issues that the added power is likely to highlight. See how it goes

Dont see the point wasting money on the DV when you could be spending it elsewhere EG downpipe etc.

I'd buy the TIP (no filter, just keep the stock airbox), downpipe and the map. Perhaps a front mount if theres budget left for it.

i did wonder that about the DV but i dont know how up to scratch the standard one is after a remap

I agree
Badger 5 TIP and jetex
007p - for peace of mind.
and a remap from a good source so as there are no fueling issues.
N249 delete is good too.

Standard DV will be fine, plenty of folk using them on tuned engines including S4 and RS4's without problem.

If your worried spend £25 and put a new one in so its fresh rather than 10 years old.

I dont do cone filters, I like properly filtered air, so i'd be retaining the stock airbox.

The saving from the DV and filter would probably put a decat downpipe on there (assuming ofcourse there are cheap ones available from the likes of XSPower etc, i've never looked), which will make a bigger difference to the overall outcome imo.

;)

Theres a reason paper filters are used almost exclusively by automotive OEM applications, regardless of wether its a Kia Picanto or a top end Ferrari. They're the only things that actually work and filter the air to an acceptable standard.

It wont be because they can rake money in year on year on paper elements, a cone is no good to them as it will last years....:)

Aftermarket filters flow better because they have huge gaps in the filter element. Those huge gaps let much larger particles thru than the small gaps in a paper filter.

Aftermarket filters are then oiled, to try and catch the dirt thats flying thru the larger holes.

Oil them lots, you contaminate the MAF, oil them less and filtration drops.

Most people dont care what their motor injests. I do!

The problem is the failures dont get attributed to it.

Someones MAF dies they dont look at the car and think "that must be the cone filter" they just think "its 10 years old, time for a new one". Trying to work out IF it was the filter or if it was just age verges on impossible, unless the new one then dies in short order (which has been seen a few times on SRS)

Similarly the engine wear caused by dirty air is slow and takes a long time. Its not negligable, but any damage caused most people would simply attribute to age, when the filter might have hugely accellerated said wear.

Cool, thanks for all the suggestions, how hard is the badger tip to fit, is it better to get a garage to do it?
