I am looking to purchase some brushed Aluminium mirrors, but from what Ive read many ASN members have unfortunatley had thiers stolen.

Obviously I dont want to potentially purchase stolen ones from e bay to fuel the demand for stealing them and was wondering where is the best place to purchase (other than Audi)?

Seen these on another thread Audi A3 S3 8L 01-02 Alu/matt Finish Mirror Covers Caps | eBay

Any body any experiance of the above link type or any other help/advice would be appreciated.

Also If anybody has any pictures of a Red Sline Sports Back (roofrail option) with these mirrors on I would be greatful of a look, as I think the mirrors will compliment the roof rails but want to be sure it wont look naff.

Cheers

dont think they did brushed alus for the 8P's did they? prety sure mine are painted :)

yeah it is a relief, i am less stressed about leaving the car now knowing theres less chance of them being nicked.....

So all new ones are painted? thats Sh~t!!

I take it I wont get brushed Alu ones to fit my 07 then?

OK can anybody steer me in the right direction to the correct ones then and the cost etc.

Cheers Peops

yep they are all painted now on rs/s cars a bit of a money saving thing prob from vw like they dont put on the engine size anymore just the engine tdi/tfsi etc... , if you want genuine ones go to audi but be prepared it'll cost you alot , if buying off ebay be aware that alot of S3's have had there nicked recently so you could even be buying a members nicked ones on here , oh and dont go for the cheapo jap ones they are junk the finish is rubbish on them

they look good ive got no idea what they are like tho , but the good thing with them is they should have a warranty so if they do corrode or anything like that they will get replaced i suppose , i would feel more happy buying off a place like that than ebay you just dont know who it is selling the item on ebay do you with so much crime around nowadays ,and audi's being the prime targets for parts etc...

I think those are the ones I've seen on eBay - probably the same seller or the same part at least. I'm only assuming this as the images are identical as well as a the description and bullet points.

8EO 857 507A that the part number for the proper aluminum mirrors my mate has a set on his a3 and yes they are made propa heavy and are stamped up by audi etc

Right now I'm confused lol? There appears to be mixed answers here.

to clear any confussion up 8E is the part number for the old audi a4 the b6 i beleve and the wing mirrors fit onto the a3 8p as they are the same , and yes they are the alu ones as they are off a older model only newer models have the plastic mirrors painted does that make sense to you matey

Ouch. Assuming the answer is just silver, but anyone know what colour/ paint code Audi spray the newer 'painted' versions?

Im considering doing mine.... Yay or nay

dont know the colour code soz bud , but i would get them done before mine were black they were silver looked very good too just up close you could tell they were painted but thats because i did them with rattle cans but looked good either way

i have bought and sold after market mirror covers and they never fit perfect like a genuine oem product, plus easy to nick as they are double sided tabs on them. you will prob have to bond them on and that will wreck the finish on the mirrors, especially is some **** nicks the covers. imo i would get them painted. cheaper and better finish prob cost you 30-40 quid.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the mirror covers in my above link are complete replacement mirror housings and not stick on type covers?

From my understanding here you would need to remove the existing to fit the new ones.

Am I correct here?

To clear up some confusion & misinformation on here.

The full ally mirrors were stopped from the B5, 8L & associated A6 chassis era & they moved to a new process of plating the plastic covers with ally from the B6/7 iirc.

You see this by looking inside the covers & see where the plating has stopped around the screw fixing stand off points where they obviously hold the covers in place whilst manufacturing the brushed ally plating look, its very clear even by looking at that area, they're not painted & even newer style 8P mirrors are identical in processing, you can tap the exterior & feel its plated as painting doesnt give you that same noise/feel feedback, its a metallic noise/feedback if that makes any sense.

There are no such thing as full ally mirrors for the B6/7 & 8P.

Your mate who has supposed solid ally mirrors on his A3, will be shocked to know they arent solid anymore, they're as above.

All the S/RS cars have brushed mirrors now unless otherwise alternatives requested on order day.

Although the B7 RS4 saloon/avant may have solid given design, but this is an anomaly as the cab has standard B6/7 mirrors iirc with ally plated covers.

B6/7 covers will fit the 8P perfectly mainly because they share part numbers for various mirror parts, same as the newer 8P mirrors aswell.

I know all this having had a fair few sets on various cars myself, had a B6 S4, 2 8P's now & all genuine ally mirrors are as stated above

Can anyone tell me if the S3s are a different shape or are they the same as the ordinary covers?

Is the 'plated' finish paintable?

Same & I wouldnt goto expense of the ally plated version & then paint them, but guessing thats why you asked if they were any different, so use the plastic ones as allot cheaper.

Thanks Nigel. Was thinking it would be a nice touch to have painted s3 mirrors if different shape. I guess not then :)

Hi just been reading up about the wing mirror covers saga. They are my product listed for sale on the link and as stated they are complete covers, so cannot be stolen like the 3M stick on Tat,
These are Quality product and i now do them for most A4s,the B6 A4 covers are the same shape as the A3 A6 models as listed in my add, Audi used the same mold for all of these.
In defence of my covers THEY FIT PERFECT!! Guaranteed. The process of coating is similar to Plastic chroming, the covers are fully plastic chromed, basically a coat of metal is adhered to them by means of modern science jiggerry pokery, and then somehow Gloss Matt coated, not sprayed ,its this point i am lost!! Dont know how they do it but looks great.
New stock for Passats Golf Eos and B8 Audi A4 coming in Friday.Anyhelp give me a shout. If Any body needs pictures of these covers or new B8 covers.

Are you sorted with the mirrors?I have a pair of genuine cast aluminium ones in my loft - off my 'facelift' 2001 S3 (8L) Misano Red, purchased by me, which I still have, and will have for a long time. If they are of interest then send me a PM for photographs of the car with: a) these original mirrors housing, b) with the current Misano Red mirror housings, and c) of the cast aluminium housings themselves. If you are this way (Cannock, Staffordshire) then you can always view, no problems.I haven't considered price yet but they'll not be cheap. Regards John
