Hi everyone

I have tried the search section but couldn't find what i am looking for and have checked my book in the car.

I picked up my A4 avant 1.8t 190 Sline yesterday and decided that i shall do an engine flush and new oil. Car has been on longlife since new and will be changing that to 6month oil changes.

How much oil does the 1.8t take?

If there is a post can you post the link and i will have a read

Cheers for your help

Tam

i was told the other day its 3.5L, but my engine is an AVJ.

haynes manuals says if its a 1.8 and you put a new oil filter on its 3.7 litres if its a 2.0 then its 4.2 litres

AVJ is definitely 3.5l (well just over)

I wouldn't have thought it would differ much. I would assume the engine codes are to do with bolt ons such as turbo, pistons???

The capacity won't differ much from engine to engine I wouldn't think.

Cheers for that everyone

Do i need fully of part synthetic?

As i went to Adi and they said if i am going to change my oil every 6months you will be better off with the part synthetic. It meets the vw/audi spec and is 10w40 or should i have gone for the 5w30?

Always use full synth in the 1.8t, false economy otherwise.

Also, ask your Audi parts depot or GSF for the oversize oil filter (from a VW Van I think!), it will take the oil capacity up from 3.7 litres to nearly 4. Every little helps!

Personally, after flushing my engine with Wynns and then changing my oil, my oil pick up pipe became blocked a few miles later. I would strongly advise not doing it, I believe the flush dislodged loads of sludge etc which then blocked the pick up strainer.

Best advice is to change the oil more frequently for a while so that the new oil with it's detergents gradually cleans up the engine. I do mine every 6000 or 6 months now, but it won't hurt to do a couple of changes at 3000. Full synth 5w/30 is what you need.

have to agree with tooks on the not using oil flush stuff iv looked into this a few times and its not the best way to clean the old oil as like he says it dislodged a lot of crap that the car has bilt up over the years and needs some of it still as the engine has worn any how i was advises to drop the old oil put new in drive it for a mth then drop it again and put new in oil in job done i thought this would be a wast but did it and seems to clean it nicley so will keep on doing it this way as i was told the new oil will brake down the crap on its own that why you drop it a mth latter
