Hi guys,

My registration bulbs have blown and the screws in the holders are all stripped. Some garages tell me i need to buy a whole new unit ( the part where the pressure pad for the boot is ) but have qouted me around £150. Does anyone know where to get any from apart from scrapyards as ive phoned round all the ones up here and no-one has any :banghead:

Thanks! :sm4:

.....but have qouted me around £150.

About a £115 too much!

Bought the aluminium casting part (8E0 827 576 3FZ) from the dealer for £26 + VAT back in August 2010.
Light lens units are 8E0 807 430 A & 8E0 807 430 B @ £7.01 + VAT each.
You can reuse the wiring and boot touch switch from the old one.
Had these issues when fitting a Reversing Camera.

You can buy the complete assembly already made up but obviously a lot more £££.

Also this is a very common problem - replace the license plate screws with stainless steel allen screws.
There is a full write-up here.

As Woorlord says it's worth putting stainless Allen screws back in, I also put coppaslip on the threads and (intend) to wind them in and out every few months to keep them from seizing again. Are you going to fit LED bulbs while you're there?

Here's a few pics of what it all looks like:

Thanks a lot guys!

Yeah James, i think im gonna stick some LED bulbs in there when im doing it.
Where did you get your replacement unit from mate?

Common problem no need to to replace whole unit either just break the 2 light lenses and remove older screws with pliars and replace with 2 new lenses.I did a bit of a write up in the thread linked above.

Cheers guys!

Need to get onto Audi and get these ordered. I didnt realise they were so cheap after being quoted £150 to fit the thing!!

MIV, you got any pics of those LEDs mate? Would like to see them before i commit to buying them lol

Not got any pics, but will take some and post up over the weekend

No, sorry mate. Someone drove into the car that week and it's a write off. I took my new number plate bulbs and holders off the car though!! Will put them in my next one. You need to make sure you put the bulbs in the right way around otherwise you'll get bulb warnings. Just check before screwing them back up. I'll ask my mate to send me a pic of his for you as he's got the same ones.

Bad luck mate  , you getting another one?

Hope you get things sorted soon.

Yeah that would be great bud! Cheers! :salute:

My mate still hasn't fitted his bulbs so here's a pic of the same bulbs fitted to our A3 (exactly the same bulbs & holders as the A4)

Well one of my screws snapped clean off!!!! So i removed the whole unit and drilled and tapped to m6 and countersunk a stainless allen bolt in. looks fine and flush and easy to remove. So thats an option for anyone in the same situation and it never cost me a penny!
