General opinion on 1.8T FSI Black Edition manual?

Love mine and i think its a brilliant engine, Its very different to other turbo petrols and diesels. The torque kicks in very low at 1500rpm so it makes for a very comfortable drive without pulling out of gear to much.
There also quite quick in stock form being FWD and having a smaller engine they are quite light compared to the rest of the range.

Thanks for your take on it mate, some interesting info there. I have noticed it packs a punch in terms of spec for what it is, what about fuel economy, you knocking out 30s around town and 40s on long journeys (motorway travel) ?

i manage around 35mph on the way to work, thats town partially town driving and dual carriageways. Its good on the motorway high 40s and 50s if driving really settled. I managed 50s comfortably.

sounds good to me that mate, not only has the power but fuel efficient too, cant complain with that package, i have spotted one for under £20k only a year old with 8k on the clock, i will be going to see it sometime next week hopefully, thanks once again for your feedback.

They are defo worth it, Also because of very few of them on the road the insurance is alot cheaper.
I was looking at the 2.0T but i couldnt stretch to it solely because of the insurance. My quotes sat in the barrier for 3-4k be it A3 FWD, Quattro or a GTI.
The TDIs were expensive aswell to insure for me, same as my previous car and in stock form the TDIs did not excite me as much. I appreciate the diesels but i prefer my petrol cars.

quotes are £200 more than what i was expecting to pay for the 2.0TDi 140 model, but after having so many knockbacks with this type on the market, i have came across a good find so i would to like follow this one up right through to the purchase, but see how it goes.
The gains after a REVO stage 1 are very impressive too, i must admit i have always wanted a petrol turbo so hopefully it works out in the end!
1.8T strangely hasnt followed its predecessor as well, but by these reports it certainly should of, 1.5k kick in sounds like fun, strange the derv is more expensive to insure though, insurance companies spin always a story huh, bar stewards.
Yeah thats why I find it strange it hasnt sold more, but how is it possible the 140 is above rest by 2 positions aswell, I'll tell you why, cause more people have them so insurance companies can stick us in the butt every year, another life tax.
i see what you mean, i must say i hadn't heard much about the 1.8T FSI but after doing plenty of research on them this evening im pretty impressed with the overall package it offers, insurance is not kind to most audi's lets be honest but they can do what they look as most people have no other option but to pay what they ask.
I have a 1.8TFSI with revo's stage 1. i mainly do motorway driving and the remap has helped with both power and MPGs big time. my average mpg is 40-41 and i have around 220hp and 272 lb/ft torque. couldn't ask for more in my position really. Although i have the s-tronic version i'd rather a manual gbox i think.

thats sounds quality that mate, i have researched the Revo tuning route and the gains are pretty impressive for Stage 1 alone! mpg even improving aswell you cant ask for much more than that lol.

Not owned one but driven some 1.8Ts. Not a bad engine, lacks a bit of grunt over the 2.0TFsi motor. Seems quite torquey but that brings the usual FWD problem.
Main benefit is cost, either purchase or company car. + of course I think you only get one exhaust pipe.. but I may be wrong on that one!
Fo my bucks the 2.0Tdi is the best motor in an 8P and add Quattro if you can to make a good car great.

The 1.8TFSI come with a twin exhaust standard.
The Diesels are great but in stock form the 170TDI with a quattro system did not feel as quick when i sat in one the other day. It felt weighted and alot more solid but it was not as quick in a straight line.
This was a 5 door model, Im pretty sure the non quattro would be faster probably but the quattro systems added weight did show it.

I loves mine, had it for nearly a year and so so happy with it, money well spent I'd say.... and the lower insurance is a bonus. 
thanks for all your feedback lads, very positive, i will keep you informed of whats going on, one in particular will be getting some attention this week so hopefully i will have some big news very soon!
