Hi I am looking at possibly purchasing a 2003 a4 Avant 2.0 fsi and have been told it is the cvt multitronic did these have problems and had any one driven these what are they like anything I should be aware of . Cheers

I'm no expert on them, but they had an issue with (I believe) the clutch packs, and they received a recall to upgrade from a 6 pack to 7 pack clutch unit. If that's been done and the oil changed as per the correct interval (40k?) then you should be ok.

Would pay to do some thorough googling first though!

Lots and lots about them on the web and lots and lots can go wrong! Although lots of tell tale signes to watch for when looking. My 2003 2.5 tdi has one and I bought it with a recon box at 73k super smooth to drive but pulling away can be interesting as the drive take up can be slow.

Personally would not go near a Multitronic CVT on an Audi A4/B6 based on the problems there have been in the past - particularly just after the end of the three year warranty!
They need to be well maintained with regular oil changes.

The Audi CVT does use a chain and not a rubber band like the old DAF 66 I had experience with - great little fun car, could go backwards as fast as you could go forwards!!
