Just cleaned fuel injectors *wow*

How do you know if your injectors need doing? Mine has covered 40,000 miles since new in 2003 and as far as I can tell is running just fine.

Someone organise an Injector Cleaning day please! (with coffee and bacon rolls?!) ;)

Gutted about amazon the tw@ts, lol.

Anyway, how do you disconnect the eletrical top part of the injectors? Just gone out to clean the outside of the injectors up ready for thursday, had a look at disconnecting the injectors but couldnt see how you do! The caps look like they pull off! Had a quick play but didnt want to rag them just in case there's a certain way to remove them! Any help :).

lol on it like a car bonnet....To be fair it is straight forward......

I just pulled the clip of the FPR and pulled the FPR out with some cloth in my hand ....very little fuel spill.
Undo the injector wiring connectors i just pulled all the little wire clips out.
2 alan cap head bolts to remove then just ease the fuel rail up out of the manni,
All fuel lines in and out remain connected,
Just pull the injectors out of the fuel rail and clean them
refitting is the same backwards..
Estimated time....1 hour back on the road....
pics to follow next one i do .....sandip?

At the risk of being called a numpty (there we go...), what & where is the FPR?

FPR Fuel Pressure Rail is the usual meaning, some peeps also use FPR for Fuel Pressure Regulator.

Not at all mate, it is the fuel pressure regulator....it sits on the right hand side of the fuel rail and is circular, with what looks like an oversized hair clip going through it.

Dave why have you got your boost pipe on the FPR line! you can use the other line which goes into the buttom left side of the manifold.

I did this today using the method in the youtube video - worked great.

3 of the 4 injectors were not spraying a mist at all, just a single jet out at one point - this has to be a good piece of maintenance for everyone ?

I also cleaned out the complete fuel rail and FPR which was full of little pieces of fuel hose and general gunk, replaced the fuel hoses while I was at it. In total took about 3.5 Hours and very happy now to know all of that is clean and working properly !

Just done this tonight too, did it exactly as Dave has with a ultrasonic cleaner from Maplin's. A fair amount of dirt has come out of them all. I'm sure it will help mpg, but how noticable i'm unsure?

Awesome! Any performance difference on the road you've felt from it?

Just ordered one of those ****** machines, why did I read this post! lol

The car is in pieces as I haven't used it for 2 years so it was just another job I did whilst it's apart. I look forward to driving it again but we have done so much i won't be sure what exact difference cleaning the injectors made alone..

Wish I had taken pictures though as god knows how so much crap got so far down the fuel system !

I have just done this, I will sell my machine on for £30 including postage to anyone that is interested (PM me). Definitely made a difference, they were filthy. mpg has risen a bit, and pulls a little harder also....very easy to do.

I've just bought my cleaner - Maplins cheap one but hopefully it will do the trick.

S3Dave

Sorry to spam your thread but how many runs through the cleaner did it take? Mine's a 1.6i but hopefully it won't be too painful to remove and replace.

i just ran it on the extended cycle 480 seconds

So... If anybody near me gets one... I'd be obliging if you would share the wealth :)

I'll have a cleaner in the next few weeks mate. You're welcome to pop over again one Sunday morning for a quick spring clean!

m in South Essex if anyone needs a go on Sunday. Not sure how good mine will be. It's brand new and I've been doing my spanners and jewellry and it seems good!

Mine was only $22 but that's because the Maplin at my office is closing down :D

is it ok to do more than one at a time? and do they need to be left to dry?

Do the lot together just shake any excess fluid out...then refit

Brilliant I did them all separate, took forever lol. I just dryed them up with tissue gave them a few shakes and refit. Test drove and all seems fine, just gotta attempt that ****** fuel filter again 2moro.

I too have noticed a slight increase on the MPG, idling is also smoother.

Dave did 480 secs, just time it. My mrs did 5 mins then again as they didn't clean up that well first time. Just got them back now :) tooo many jobs to do on Sunday. Oh the joys of 8l owner ship

The FBR is this:

Just ordered the cleaner, will give it a go!

Will the FPR be ok getting ultrasonicly cleaned? Doesnt need dismantling to get to the filter or anything does it?
