Anybody riding on 18x8.0" rims with an offset of ET42 ?

I'm currently scanning around for a new set off wheels before I go lowering the car, and was wondering how these look, and if there is, or will be, any rubbing issues....and also if I'll need spacers.

Thanks in advance :sm4:

Erm.....bump ?...please ? ;)

(for the record, the wheels would be running on 225/40/18 tyres)

3 or 5 door? If 5 door offset would be too low and likely rub especially with 8js, 3 door should be ok, 5 door has ET54+ 7.5js with OEM wheels whilst reps are ok on standard springs I know of people who had issues with dropping 40+ mm

Thanks for the reply mate.

It's the 5 door sportback S-Line. So currently running on stock 7j's (18's). I was also gonna be looking into lowering it about 50mm to give it more of an S3 type stance, and wanting to bring the wheels flush with the arches, like alot of the lovely motors on here.

But if you reckon I'll get rubbing issues with those wheels I'll look around instead. :)

Thanks again for your help

No worries. Try to pick up a set of genuine A3 wheels, be careful on eBay as people often list a4 wheels as suitable, often they aren't. Good luck in your hunt took me 3 months to find a set for mine that I was happy with

Tell me about it. The A3 offset is ET56 ,the A4 is ET45. I travelled 300 miles for a set of Alloys assured they were from an A3 ................

yeah but they'll fit, they'll just fill the arches nicer. A4 wheels are a better bet imho, slight weight increase excepted.

Have a look on pistonheads classifieds. I was on the other day and there were some nice oem wheels up for grabs. Some genuine rs6s going quite cheap too.

Sorry for the dumb questions, but here's another :

If the wheel is a 18" x 7.5, what offset range should I be looking for ?

Eventually, well, probably around the same time as I get the wheels, I'm gonna be looking at getting the car lowered on something like a set of 50mm lowering springs, and would like the wheels to sit flush to the arches.

What are the 'normal' recommendations for the above ?

Thanks in advance

You can always space out lad, so just find the wheels and I'll help you choose tyres etc..
Hi N8
I was initially looking at Cades Berns on the 18 x 8, and then when I found I may have probs I've been looking at Dotz Roadsters @ 18 x 7.5 (not sure what offset they are though).

I'm only to spend max £900 with tyres, so anything BBS is out of my range.

Would be interesting to see my car p/shopped on the above though

Bro, your better off running your OEM speedlines over reps, they are soft & will crack/buckle alot easier than your current BBS/Speedline

Yeah, I know what you're saying bud, but I just don't really get any 'kicks' out of the wheels I'm running at the moment, and just wanna have something a li'l different so that it makes the car stand out a little more.

I did run BBS RX2 reps on the TT for 3.5 years, and they were fine - well, ****** should be with all the cleaning and protecting attention I gave 'em....lol But, they did make the car look alot better, and 'different' in my eyes. (not saying that what you said about reps not being a better choice isn't true, just saying that I done okay last time around)

The only thing that concerns me at the moment is making sure that I buy a rim that I know will be 'safe' for my car, including spacers if necessary to bring 'em out to the arch (which is what I done with the TT).

Got any thoughts/recommendations as to what WOULD go well with the A3 ? (all welcome and appreciated, btw)

I just don't like reps as I work @ a Refurbishing company and see the quality of all wheels and all the buckled/cracked wheels that come through the door! You staying away from 19"s?

Aha.....I understand better now. Thanks for the info.

I 'am' trying to stay away from 19's, mainly for the fact that I have to drive up a lane every day to get out of my drive, and sometimes (especially when it's been raining in the winter), even on 225/40/18's you can find the whole off the tyre wall covered in mud ! <yeuch>

So, although I love 19's, I just think it's a no-no for me.

So seeing that you're the God of rims, whaddya think I could have on my li'l ole red motor that would suit it best ?

Do you think that merely changing the colour of OEM Speedlines would make a large impact ?....just a thought

Have you considered vmrs kriminal?

VMR VB3s in anthracite would look great, something a bit different! They should be within your budget too

I would deffo suggest anthracite with your red! Don't you live in whitchurch again?

Funny enough, there's a little red Renault Clio in the Renault garage (by where I work at veedub) and that's got anthracite wheels on it - works really well, so have been ogling around for that colour too....just damn difficult to find 'exactly' what I'm after...fussy git ain't I ?...lol

moag : thanks for the suggestion on the VMR's - they look pretty darn good. I'll have to do a bit more home-work on 'em when I finish work. Thanks though :)

I'm so glad Audi moved from there, garages are so small aren't they! Yes anthracite is a winner

I'm only part glad they moved - it means I can't get any stuff for my car on a lunchtime now, or ogle at the new Audis coming in :sadlike:

Still, not the best location for car dealerships, imo. Being based near a river it attracts the birds, which in turn sh't all over the cars !!

I'm now wondering what MY standard wheels would look like on my motor - in anthracite, and out on spacers ?!...hmmm

Would look nice, but 19" anthracite speedlines would look  like these:

Holy Sh....... !!!

Is THAT the same wheel ?? (apart from size)

Now I'm starting to wonder how much it'd cost for the respray....and, if there's a company we deal with in here who'd be able to do it for me

I could try and haggle a discount considering I make all the payments <cough cough>

Yes bro it is, the speedlines look soooo small in 18"s man. You need to ride out in my friends A4 from bristol with 19" speedlines and lowered on coilovers, you will be shocked how well the car rides. I can get them refurbed for you brother.......

Can't budge on the 18's I'm afraid - the extra bit of tyre wall keeps the mud of the wheels in the winter...lol

One prob with the refurb offer - I'll be needing another set of wheels to keep me mobilised. Thanks though, much appreciated ;)

How much do you reckon it'll set me back to get 'em refurbed, as per the Golf in the pic ? (but on 18's !!!!!....hehe)

Can anyone do me a HUGE favour please, and photoshop the picture below so that my speedlines (the centre part, leaving the rim) are anthracite :

Thanks
