Car shaking at high speed

Hi,

My Audi A3 8L seems to shake at high speed. I had the driveshaft replaced a few weeks ago, new tyres, pads and disks and it still seems to shake. It only does it at motorway speeds however I have also noticed after having the driveshaft replaced that the car seems to be juddering on acceleration and braking but only very very minor.

Any ideas of what the problem could be?

Dave makes a good point. I had something similar and it turned out to be the front prop doughnut. Easy test is to engage the handbrake 1 click only and see if it goes away.

Alternatively you could pull fuse 31.

Both methods disengage the haldex clutch.
 
Ok, just been out in the car and engaged the handbrake while driving however the shaking still remains at high speed.

I am going to get the wheel balancing checked soon.

The car also has a small misfire on idle, could a misfire cause shaking at high speeds?
 
On idle the engine will skip a beat every other couple of seconds, it doesn't splutter or anything.
 
Sounds like a vac leak to me - normal on these engines, worth checking all the small vac hoses around and under the inlet manifold.

Unlikely to be the cause of a shake though - these are normally mechanically induced.
 
Sometimes the weights drop off the inside of your wheel,have you spacers ? have you checked all your wheels are securely on ?
 
I have now had the wheels balanced and it has fixed the car shaking.

Out of balance front wheels will give you a shaking steering wheel at speed, not usually noticeable if rears are out of balance.

Can it also cause rumbling/noise at higher speeds and turning? Like at 35mph it makes a certain rumble (dipped clutch and still present so not from the engine) I'm experiencing this, had the tracking and wheel bearings checked and they're fine.... Tyres are also relatively new.

Not had the wheel balancing checked yet....
