I have a problem with my clutch, but i am not sure which part i need!!

The clutch pedal has to be touching the floor before it engages, not only that the pedal travels half it's distance before you feel any resistance.
The clutch lever also has an annoying squeak, which is getting worse.

I have bled the clutch, but it was not that.

The clutch does not slip, so i don't think it is that.

I have had a look in the foot well, under the clutch lever and noticed what looks like a plunger, would this be the problem? Or is there more to it?

A diagram of how the clutch parts would be a great help.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

When u say u bled the clutch what exactly did u bleed? Did u bleed it with the clutch pedal depressed? Do u mean also the it disengages when the pedal is down to the floor?

Probably the master cylinder or the slave cylinder, I had this issue which gradually got worse, mine turned out to be the slave which is inside the gearbox, I ended up having to replace the clutch and flywheel at the same time...

I bled the clutch system, as i was told that could of been the reason why my clutch was so heavy, Oh! i forgot to mention that..
The clutch works fine, it just has to be touching the floor before you can change gear, this makes it very hard to go through the gears quickly if you know what i mean?

I bled the bleed nipple at the front of the gear box.

I have noticed over the past 6 months that the clutch pedal is getting closer and closer to the floor before any a resistance can be felt, as if its not connected.

Does sound like the same symptoms as I had, more than lightly your slave cylinder is taking in air and gradually getting worse. My clutch worked fine too until it got to the point where I could hardly engage a gear...

Does the clutch firm up if you pump it a few times ?

If you pump the pedal it makes no difference, there is still no resistance until it gets half way down.

What is the plunger type thing under the clutch pedal?

Right! Car this morning would not go into gear!!!!!! When you put your foot flat to the floor it engages just before the pedal touches the floor, but not enough to open up the clutch to engage it in gear.
Also the squeaking is annoying loud, and deffinatly comes from under the clutch pedal.

Help please someone!!

Just read a post where a clutch had snapped and loud squeaking and creaking was heard before the pedal snapped. Could this be related to my problem?

You have air in the clutch circuit, probably from a leaking slave cylinder.

If you bleed it thru with an eezibleed or similar you'll get a peddle back, for a while.

i had a pedal problem to on mines!! squecking then went totaly to the floor!!to get it home i strated it up in gear and drove home!!
the pedal clips and pedal needed repalcing were the plunger goes onto the pedal..
sorted!!

Problem solved and fixed.
It turned out to be my Clutch Master cylinder..

£59 from GSF, and 6 hours of my labour to replace it.

Found when i was taking the old one off, the clutch pedal had broken at some point and been repaired. It seems that the rod had also been damaged (bent), but they decided not to replace it.

Pedal is now really light, squeak has gone, and i have a perfectly working clutch.

That's lucky then, when it happened to us we changed the MC as it was only an hours work.

That repair lasted about a month and the slave gave out. I recon the master was fine all along and the slave was allowing air in

Same here, when I had my work done they did the master cylinder as the cheaper option and the car was fine for a week or so and gradually got worse again, ended up changing the slave cylinder, hopefully yours is a permanent fix though...

I know that the master cylinder was damaged, so i won't kick myself to hard if the problem comes back.

Hi mark_sarah,

don't suppose ur reading this anymore but i'll try anyway...

Can you tell me how u did the master cyclinder por favor, need to do mine:( ?

Did u bleed the whole clutch circuit first or just swap the good for bad then bleed afterwards?

More importantly tho what were the stumbling blocks u found - what were the hardest bits?
What did u have to remove?
Is it easy to get to the other side of the MC, i.e. the engine side?

Any advice would be great thanks:)

Yes i still read all updated posts.

I just disconnected the pipes on the back of the MC and let it drain out, whilst i was removing the clutch pedal.

I had to remove the large metal intercooler pipe, and the heat shield on the bulk head to access the MC. But it is still a tight squeeze

I struggled to remove the clips holding the reservoir pipe on, and ended up cutting them off, so make sure you have replacements available.
Take a look at the replacement MC, to get and idea how the clip on the other pipe comes off.

The pedal comes off easier enough, but the return spring will have to be compressed to refit. Haynes manual gives you and idea of what you need to make to help refit it. I used some fine wire and just cut it off afterwards.

I found the hardest bit patience, i have none. And half as much in the dark.
