Hi there,

I thought I would start a new thread on this save clogging the thread about unsticking vnt vains,

I tried to unstick my vanes today on my turbo using the mr muscle method today, and got as far removing the 2 Nuts off the bottom of the EGR Pipe, they are completley siezed and wont budge and 1 is near rounded off, can i just put the silicone pipe down from the top of the EGR pipe as i can get the top bolts out and i could thread it all the way down into the turbo, I could try and use a straightened metal coat hanger to guide the silicone tube?

if not is there any other way of doing this? i.e put the silicone pipe through the inlet side of the turbo through in to the exhaust side (I.e Through the Compressor?) or any way at all?

Could I remove the turbo from the manifold? How hard is this to do and is there a guide?

Thanks

Trouble with going in from the top of the egr pipe is there is only one 'hole' that the pipe should be going down, and there is a risk your pipe will miss and sit down an exhaust port, by having it off at the bottom you can see where the pipe is going.

There is no way through from the inlet side to the exhaust side of the turbo, the only joint it the shaft which is sitting in barings/ oil ways etc.

You could remove the turbo and potentially do a much better cleaning job, it's probably a 2 hour job if you haven't attempted it before but is do-able.

Personally I would go to town on the bolt thats seized and get it out any way possible and replace it with a new one, but thats just me, don't like to be beaten!

Hope this is helpful

Thanks for the Advice, Tommorrow i am going to have ago at the nut, ill attempt to saw them off and replace them

Yay! got one of the bottom nuts of fine now, but the Bottom nut Sheared the Stud half off aswell, so decided im going to do the MR Muscle Clean and EGR Blank at the same time :) Great i thought, so with the blanks in place and the nut on best i could on the bottom stud, went for a blast only to hear a large Screaming and fluttering noise on boost, Took it home and realised the bottom nut had come off, but i will say in first and second gear even with some boost escaping from the EGR blank it pulled so hard and even underload in 3rd 4th and 5th with boost escaping it pulled all the way to 100 Meter per hour ;) without limp mode which i am gald about, so i have bodged the EGR blank up for now and take it out later to see if it has worked :D Thanks for the guide :)

Glad you got it sorted. I keep wanting to blank my egr off, have you just removed the egr pipe then fitted a blanking plate to the exhaust manifold? Also what did you do with the pipe that goes to the egr valve?

I had a egr power pipe type thing on my Bora and when I used to turn it off it used to shudder like hell.

Yeah i fitted a blanking plate to the Exhaust Manifold (Bottom if EGR Pipe) and to the Intake Pipe (Where the Top of the EGR Pipe Connects), and the pipe that leads to the EGR Valve i Blocked off with a Bolt and a Jubilee clip to hold it in incase, i will get a pic for you after or tommoz :)

Cheers

Cheers. I'll get myself a couple of plates off ebay and get them fitted.

Well good news really, the Clean seems to of worked great, 1st and 2nd gear are an absolute charm lol Espicially in the wet lol 3rd 4th and 5th seem to pull great aswell with no Limp mode last night or this morning, i have one more test now on the way back from work everynight without fail in the same pleace, lets see how it copes :)

Cheers for the pics bud, have you kept the gasket on the exhaust manifold now you have the plate fitted?

I've got a never ending list of jobs to do now lol.

Lol I did put it on but I was blowing as I couldn't righted the nut down to much due t the snapped stud and blew the gasket in half lol so I took it off, I still don't know where the other half went lol
