My dad has an A3 aswell. His is a 2.0 TDi sport, 69000 miles on a 53 Plate.
Started using coolant like mad the last few days and smoking heavily on startup and for a good few minutes after whilst under any load.
Its been at the garage today and they say they've put die in the coolant and cant find any leaks in the coolant system.
The car still goes perfectly fine and doesnt feel slow or hesitant at all.
Theres no mayo in the oil and the smoke is only ever white. I know these engines, especially the earlier ones had issues with the heads being porous and/or twisting. Does this sound like the root of the problem?
The garage says they now dont know whats wrong with it, but guessing they'll suggest a new head which obviously won't be cheap. Does anyone have any reccomendations on what to do next, or whether getting the head pressure tested will be of much benefit? Is there any sort of warranty backup on this particular issue, despite the age of the car?
Failing that, any recomendations of decent Audi specialist garages in the Warwickshire area would be great.
Big thanks in advance for any help/knowledge you guys can share.
