Hi folks.
Finally decided to sign up as I have a few questions and I fancied putting up some pics of the A3.

So here she is. Its a 1999 A3 1.8T.

Its fairly original at the minute. Since owning it I have fitted the obligatory clear side repeater lenses and forge 007p and a boost guage on the A pillar.

Questions are as follows:
What is the colour of my car called? Could anyone else with this colour post up pictures please, as im looking for a bit of inspiration but cannot seem to find many in that colour.

What year did the A3 get a facelift? I know mine has the digital clocks and later door handles etc, but early front end and dashboard.

When fitting an aftermarket stereo (I have a Pioneer AVIC-X1R ready to go in.) Is there anything I will need to watch out for or is it a straight fit? The car does not have the BOSE pack but does have factory rear sub and cd changer.

Cheers guys.
Bryn.

Nice clean car mate.

Face lift was late 2000, mine only just missed out by a few months. Fit some silver front bulbs to remove the orange glow too :)

Do you have any pic's of the boost gauge im thinking i need one soon

looks nice, i think you will need facia plates to put your headunit in as the standard one is longer than aftermarket ones.. other than that it should go straight in.

What boost gauge do you have? im also thinking of getting one soon.

Nice Volkswagen keyring! ;)

Smart looking car pal, happy driving!

Cheers guys. The boost gauge is only a cheapy i have borrowed for now until my stack gauge comes through.

Hahaha yeah ive only ever had VW's in 3 years of driving. Im a VR6 man at heart.

Time to update this thread.
Since the last pics were taken ive mostly focused on replacing the consumable parts that wear over time. Its had 2 new wishbones, ball joints and track rods and rod ends and a front wheel bearing. Also fitted lower profile tyres (gone down to 45's.) initial reason being because they were free but after a few miles I think it feels a little sharper if a little harder also. I have also fitted my AVIC X1R in car entertainment system, including GPS and dvd player, veeeryy handy with the amount of miles I do. I found the original headlights a little dim at the best of times so I fitted a HID conversion kit and an ebay bargain facelift grille and surround..

The car is now on 139,000 miles, I have covered just over 10,000 miles in it since I bought it. No real issues to report, had a noisy wheel bearing and all the recent ice and snow has smashed the plastic undertray to pieces. Other than that and a slight boost leak from the Forge 007p the car has been flawless.

Pic of it cleaned before the snow

Car looks mint mate. Also the 45 tyres make the alloys look smart!

Looks like you were having fun in the snow and looks pretty cold by you! Glad there been no real issue with the car since you bought it.
Any mods planned for the car Bryn? Looks very clean in the first photo aswell before the snow came down ha
Enjoy the car

Cheers guys.
Future plans are on hold till well into the new year due to finances. But going to be dropping it a bit and doing something with the wheels, then i'll be making up a new exhaust system for it and looking at getting it mapped.

How much did you get the lights for mate?

Isn't you're speedo going to read incorrectly with 45's on? Also, IMO, I'd lose the motul stickers....
