allroad in the snow

was looking at an allroad 2.7t for next year you get so much for your money just a bit worried abot the suspention iv read they are expencive when they go wrong

i think when i come to getting one i'll look for one thats had the airbags or the compresser done or even both !! whats the diesel like iv been looking at the 2.7 twin turbo but i'm starting to think it might be a bit over kill , i agree with you on the aggressive look of the allroad i was going to get upgrade to a newer a4 but i picked one of these up at work the other week and really liked the feel of it alot more comfortable as im 6'3 and not that slim !

yeah thats the only problem with the 2.7 i think it would cripple me in running cost i think i'll just compromise and go for the diesel and like you said look into a remap but then 180 bhp for a diesel isnt bad either ! just got to find one thats got the spec i want and the colour

when i first thought about getting one i was going to colour code the bumpers but they have grown on me now think all id do is tints maybe wheels

Make shure you get a silver/grey or black one and colour code-it as they look soo much better. I have a fully loaded allroad and i only bought-it as i need a decent compromise between power and i also tow a 3 tonne trailer wich gets used on a weekly basis. The allroad with its self levelling air suspension does it really well especially as it has the weight and power to handle the trailer (i sometimes have 2 tonnes cars on it !). Also make shure you get one with as many options as possible as it will help to sell latter on. I picked mine for peanuts (Bose/Simphony,xenons,cruise, grey/black leather, front/rear parking sensors,17" split rims, etc) and allready have a twin ABT Sportsline dual exhaust to fit (its fitted on me a6 at the moment but will get swapped when the weather gets better), a ABT front grille (off me old a6) and a set of 18" a26 ABT sportsline wheels. It will go soon in the bodyshop for a spot of colour codding and i am refurbing the ABT alloys as we speak. I wish they were 19" to be honest as the 18 look lost in the allroad arches ! Here is how is gonna look when all done:

No mate, the car allready has a dark roof and i will just colour code the bumpers and side skirts- nothing wild- it will be a much more subtle transformation. I am looking for a genuine rs6 rear spoiler but they are a bit too pricey for me !

Yeah, i know what are you saying but, the exhaust cost me 300 quid of ebay (brand spanking new), the grill was 35 (also new off ebay last year) and the alloys cost me 300 notes with 4 brand new tyres- no damage to the rims but they need splitting and polishing to restore to their former glory. There was a set of 19" A26 wich sold on ebay for 400 notes but they were soo badly curbed i did not want to take a chance and i allready have another spare set just in case (yes 8 ABT Sportsline splitties alltoghether!) wich i bought a few years ago and been in the shed ever since. My allroad only cost me 2300 but it needed loads of work: 2 new cv joints, 2 new track rod ends(needs tracking now), new front brakes, thermostat was stuck open and also the aux. belt tensioner + braket was worn out- lucky i had the parts bought as i do quite a few of these every year. The car did not have tax or MOT and the chap was a bit desperate to sell so i made him an offer he could not refuse ! The car came with 4 brand new budget tyres wich i am gonna keep as winters- unfortunatelly one is a bit bald on the outside due to the worn track rod end but it will do ok as a spare... I also have a set of fat 5 alloys (8.5" wide et 45 wich cost me 170 quid for 4) on wich i fitted 4 x Vredesteins Sessanta (235/40/18) but they wont fit on the front of the allroad- they need 15-20 mm spacers but they are fine on the back. I also tried to fit the fat 5 to me b5 audi a 4 quattro and they rub on the back- bummer ! Bought a set of H&R hubcentric spacers (8 and 15mm with longer bolts) and waiting for the post man to knock on the door tomorrow... In spring it will be engine rebuild time and cleaning off the leveling sensors, new water pump, new lifters and rocker fingers and maybe lower the CR a little with thicker head gaskets... Not much planned for it as i allready have a t4 van as mobile garrage and a b5 tdi quattro as a daily/weekend fun !

The Allroad we have is the 2.7T. It is quite powerful, the power only getting used when it really is crappy out there. We live in the highlands of Scotland, where a 4x4 is a real must unless you want to stay indoors.
The tyres were replaced when we bought it, with Yoko Advans, 225x55x17 which have proved very effective on the snow and ice. At £115.00 each they are at the "lower" end of the price range you can expect to pay. They are a compromise road/winter tyre, but are really excellent.
I also have an A4 Avant 2.4 30v, although "good" in the snow, the difference is felt straight away in the Allroad. And the Allroad is a much larger car inside, carrying with ease my three dogs in the boot (a Cocker and two retriever sized German hunting dogs)
I'd most definately buy another, but I just wish Audi would get a grip of the screen washer jets, they easily freeze even when the mix is 100% (-30c) The heated jets just don't heat up to de-ice the water around the nozzles.
Other than that, what a car!
