Help... am thinking of upgrading the front and rear break pads on the ride (2009 S3 Sportback, 8PA). Been thinking about Ferodo DS2500 and Endless MX72 (Endless USA: Advanced Racing Brake Technology » MX-72). However was told that the break pad sensors need to be disconnected/cut to install DS2500, and no idea if Endless MX72 will ever fit...

You may have trouble finding DS2500 pads in that fitting.
Avoid EBC pads like the plague....I was persuaded against my better judgement to try a set...they squeal ,and they fade just as fast as the OEM sets.

I spoke to JKM about two months ago about the DS2500 as it was wasn't showing for S3 - But it does now. She also added the Goodridge lines if you are interested. I wouldn't go too extreme with the brake fluid if you don't fancy changing it every few months either. I use OPIE oils for that and engine oils - you get a 10% forum discount at checkout too.
You are right there is no pad sensor, but that's not so much of an issue for us tuning lot as we tend to be more fastidious about car care, so will keep an eye on wear rate.

ah finally some decent pads!! in the new year (once the weather permits more spirited driving) i will be treating myself to some pads, lines and better fluid!
This may sound like a stupid question, but is it £129.95 + vat for 2 pads or for 4 pads, e.g. 1 side or both? As mine (OEM!!!!!!!) are squealing bad in the cold, even though they're almost new. It also says "The OEM sensor requires a bypass / disabling." how would I go about doing this?

that is interesting... my buddies also said ds2500 is noisy, also dusty...

That's an interesting comment from your mates....I have DS2500 pads with the VWR brake kit I have on my car right now.
I can only say that they aren't noisy,they don't squeal,and are no way as dusty as the EBC pads I mentioned earlier.
What they are though,is good,progressive,and grippy,without being harsh,and they don't need to be as hot as hell to work...I'd thoroughly recommend them,and they work very well on my set up,and wear isn't a problem either.

Ive got EBC Redstuffs and after 150miles bedding they dont squeal AT ALL! Also I've driven the car very hard on many long fast country roads, repeated high speed breaking from flat in 4th/5th to 40-50 mph, and yes they do fade a bit but much much better then OEM, nothing like that kind of fade. That's with grooved and dimpled EBC discs.
The pads arent great when cold however.

As long as you're happy with them.
My own experiences were very different....they squealed for over 800 miles until the VW kit arrived and I binned them.
Maybe I was less kind to them,but the feel and fade were not significantly better than the OEM pads,but as I say,if they suit you and work for you,then you have a good result....I just wouldn't use these things again.

Sorry to intrude but my brakes(oem) are starting to squeak. Does all this mean that it could well be the weather that is the cause and not actually the wear? Im not sure whether to rely on the car comp/DIS to let me know when they are running low(thats if they do). Was just about to pop down to get some oem pads but not sure now after reading this thread! And not sure what to go for!.

And Im not sure I want to disconnect the sensor with the DS2500's. You see Im abit of a lazy noob when it comes to cars..love tuning them up but hate the maintenance side of things, must explain why my favourite feature is the DIS.
haha you really dont need the sensor, your garage should keep you up to date on how they are doing when it does in for a service, and every time i wash it i always have a quick look to see how they are doing... i hate the DIS... keeps telling me i need petrol haha!
SORRY! I didn't mean my DS2500's were squealing. It should have been 2 separate sentences.
1) When you order from jkm, is that for both front brakes, or one side only?
2) My OEM pads are squealing *very* bad, sounds like an absolute shed when it's cold out, so looking for an alternative. (I've got S3 brakes fitted)
Also - what do you need to do about the sensor? Literally leave it disconnected and it's fine (no warning) ?? as jkm says it requires a bypass/disabling (I've never seen the warning before)

I've been using Ferodo 2500's on the front[rears are standard] for over 20000k on my 2008 S3.Part number is FCP1765H..They are good from cold,and very effective from speed when hot.
I do a fair bit of track work,and they appear to be less than half worn.Dust is reasonable.
Disabling the wear sensor is as simple as joining the two terminals in the connector on the upright .From memory I used a paper clip to join them,then wrapped a piece of race tape around the end of the connector to keep it in place.
If you don't do this,you'll have a permanent warning light on the dash.
You don't need the sensor,you can easily get an indication of the pad wear by looking through the wheel spokes.
Simple really.
Also,pads are priced as a set for two wheels.

I know there certainly not the best uprated pads but for the money I'm impressed with their performance.
