Hi
I have just been in my 2006 A4 TDI SE as a passenger and found out the seat belt light/Buzzer does not come on if the Seat belt is not fastened

I asume that it thinks there is nobody in the Seat ?

I have checked round for loose wires and also the air bag shut off is working ok when turned off

have just be looking at Elsa and the passenger seat seem a complicated bit of Kit It has a Seat occupied sensor sytem built inwhich can only be Dealer repaired
And also a seat occupied sensor also this can be changed but neads the whole seat out and stripping down

Has anbody done any work on the Passenger seat or ideas what it could be?

Thanks

I only get belt light/tone on the driver side only

A3 2006 20tdi

have you tried enabling the option to beep on both driver and passenger with VCDS. there is an option there i think under convenience?

I dont know if all seats have it fitted. TBH, mine is coded for it off LOL. Might put it on & try it out to see.

No not all 8P's have this function, drivers is contact based in the buckle & the passengers is 2 step based, 1st the occupation sensor has to be triggered then the buckle contact, if you have it on the drivers then it should be on the passengers aswell.

try the A4 forum

Thanks everbody

Once again it shows how good this Forum is

I think I need to check on this more before I start removing seats :readit:

It seems from the replies that some have it and some dont !!

Can this be checked on the vin plate audi codes ?

Mine is 8PA CLC No 7AO25567

Or it seems it can be turned off under the software ??? If
so I will take it to Mate and have it checked on vagcom

thanks everbody

Like i have said before i have seen the option in VCDS (Vagcom) and you can have all off, driver only or both on.
check that this is enabled first. If after enabling this if the passenger seat does not bleep then i would look at teh actual seat.

I have just been checking some VCDS code and the seat belt chime light is in there
But i think you can only turn the buzzer off
And does boths seats ??

Removing seat belt chime: Seat belt warning chime is possible to disable/enable from VAG-COM: Instruments 17, Coding, Long coding helper, Seat belt warning active active/inactive

Just a quick update

Still not got it sorted but can anbody answer this as a bit worried about the safety issue!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it the Seat Belt connection issue Or more worring is it the Seat Ocupied Sensor
Is there a way of check and would a audi dealer be able to test it and say which it is

If the system thinks there is nobody in the seat ?
and I have a accident with a front seat passenger would the passenger airbags work???

Anybody with seat belt air bag no how or more techincal than me please help

Couldn't be certain mate but I think almost certainly the airbag will work whether or not there is a passenger.

The seat belt will definitely work and bear in mind that not so long ago seat belts were all we had !

Don't panic !!!!

i'm a little confused about this now... i've had 2 3dr A3s (MY05 from the factory and MY06 2nd hand) and neither of them have had a chime for the passenger seat. both went mad if i drove above 10mph without my belt on (as i often fasten my belt as i'm pulling away - not safe i know, but saves me a few seconds every morning and i usually need every spare second i can get!)

Mine chimes above 10 mph if either belt is not fastened ( assuming of course there is a passenger in the seat !!!)

Also shows on the DIS if either belt is not fastened.

I once put a heavy toolbox on the passenger seat and the ****** chimes went all the way home ! I could have stopped and moved it I suppose but couldn't be ***** !

mine's never shown up in DIS. i get a warning light

Have just checked ETKA

There is a 'seat occupied' sensor in the seat and a 'belt latch with warning contact' obviously in the latch.

Presumably if the sensor is ok and picks up that there is a passenger, and if the belt latch is ok and not fastened then the alarm will go off ?

I assume therefore that if either part is faulty, then the alarm will not go off.

Easiest one to change, I would suggest, is the latch (£55 ish).

I could not say if any of this affects the airbag but I'm certain that it will not affect the operation of the seat belt.

Thanks for reply I have checked the same info on Elsa there is two patrs as you say
The seat has to be removed for both parts but the buckle is the easy one to change as the seat has to be striped to change the sensor Having it checked today with Vagcom " It should show such a major safety fault!
What worries me is the replies that othere are the same
IT would only be noticed if the passenger does not fasten his belt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had it run through Vagcom no faults shown at all ???

The photos show drivers buckle and you can see the wire for seat belt warning
Passengers side has no wire and is just a flat steel wire
! Can not add photos anybody help help bottom of screen says i cant add attachments !!

Yes the buckle is the key here to if installed or not, if you dont have the contact wiring on the buckle then that side doesnt have the warning installed.

Thanks NHN
I have spent weeks on this then found out the obvious !!! Just seems strange I thought all cars had to have passegener warning my last cars have all been ford focus estates and all had it

Just found this article in the technical solutions section of Elsawin. Thought you might be interested !

Technical solution
Transaction No.: 2009744/3
A3 belt warning of unoccupied front passenger seat is on
Release date: 12-May-2006

Problem description

The belt warning light is on although the front passenger seat is not occupied and no objects are on the seat.

The belt warning light and seat recognition sensor do not affect the belt tensioner or the airbag.

Cause

Because of high temperatures in the passenger compartment and sunshine the passenger seat surface is heated up. At high temperatures the seat recognition sensor responds very sensitively and as a result the belt warning can come on although the passenger seat is not occupied.

Production solution

A3 3 door
- A belt warning light and seat recognition sensor was never fitted for the passenger seat.

A3 5 door (Sportback)
- Belt warning light and seat recognition sensor no longer fitted for the passenger seat.
From 04.11.2005 Chassis No. 8P 6A 095 532

Happy New Year !!!

This may explain why the heated seats on the facelift 08 onwards had a number of complaints from buyers saying they wernt anywhere near as warm as the pre version.

Good find Mike.

I dont have a New years hangover, feels great, actually getting **** done this year already.

Thanks for the information put my mind and others at rest

Would also explain why my 3rd has never bonged when a passenger didn't have their seat belt on

is it possible to turn this feature for the drivers seat on mine via vag-com its a 2004 (54) plate a3 3 door

Yes, it is possible to turn the drivers seatbelt warning on and off via VCDS as the requirement to have a warning is not mandatory in EU regulations.

Yes you can enable/disable via vagcom, but if you dont have the wiring installed for it, then it would be a pointless change, if your car wasnt spec'd with then coding wont change a thing.

Nige - I think he's referring to the drivers seat belt. Surely they're all wired for that aren't they ?

Nope, not at all mate, my 3dr is late 04 & didnt have, if you dont have the buckle wire then forget it mate, easy check with a torch huh.

Live and learn eh ? Good start to the New Year - another gem from the oracle !

Cheers mate and happy new year :beerchug:

Ah to you too mate, lets hope this year is better than last, of course Issy was the best thing ever, but overall the year was kinda **** for me, but thats life, head up never down & always someone else worse of, always.

Mines not got and nor am i bothered its not got it!

I cant see how its possible to forget to put your belt on, I like most people do it without noticing

and of my passenger cant do it up then its there fault if they go through the screen!

I point blankly refuse to drive anyone/anywhere unless all passengers put there belts on & its your fault if they dont put it on, its your car & your responsibility no matter how stupid the passenger is.

thanks nige i'll have a look at my buckle today , i too do it without thinking but its just one of those things one day i forget for some reason and have an crash it wouldn't be very nice being spread across my own bonnet like peanut butter lol
