Time for a new clutch guys but i'm considering just going standard.

My S3 has covered 103k on a standard clutch with about 50k of those on a remapped engine.

As the standard has been fine for me up untill now is it neccesary spending extra cash for a sachs?

Does it really make that much difference?

is there not a sachs normal clutch and a sachs uprated clutch? i believe the sachs is the same price as the LUK one. At least at euro car parts anyway

Fit a standard LUK item and maybe a flywheel depending on play.
I always fitted a new hydralic release bearing too

stick to luk and change the flywheel as you will have the box out anyway!! makes sense...
I am pushing 330hp on a luk with no problems!!!
good luck.

Thanks guys.

Garage is charging £900 all in!

For a DIY job any special tools needed?

Also does that LUK kit from euro parts have all the parts that you should replace? I've never changed a clutch but willing to give it a go!

Worth checking. Clutch is about £150 - £180 from memory, fitting clutch only is 4 or 5 hours, so should be no more than £500 if clutch alone.

Spoke to the garage and NO they aren't including the flywheel in that quote!

He said they'll change the Clutch plate, pressure plate, release bearings and input shafts...

Sound like a rip off to you guys?

I spoke to AMD in woking and they quoted around £1200 for all of the above plus the flywheel. But bearing in mind this was for a uprated sachs clutch..

Input shafts??

Pretty sure an Audi dealer does this for fixed price... around the £700 area I think but maybe worth giving a dealer a call

Audi charge £849 for clutch change on a quattro model.

I paid just over £900 for a clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder change, and wheel alignment at TTS, but got a deal on the price of the flywheel.

Appreciate the offer..

On the phone with Audi as i write this to get a breakdown of the clutch change they quote for £849 on their website.

Will let you kmow what that includes..

Right... Audi say the £849 they charge for a clutch replacement DOES NOT include changing the flywheel, master cylinder, slave cylinder or release bearings!

WTF is the point?!

Dude, i cant find that price for a flywheel on Euro car parts.. There are 2 to choose from (part nos: 336440530 & 336440420) One is £417.13 and the other £328.94????????

According to the site both are correct for my car but why the difference??

can you post your finds, as my clutch is on its way out.dont really want to pay audi prices.which clutch are you going for? and r u putting a dual mass or single mass flywheel in.

Will most likely go for a LUK clutch with a dual mass flywheel..

I think its to do with which engine you have, my 2000 reg S3 was the cheaper one.

BTW just checked out the price for a sachs clutch kit.. why is it cheaper than the LUK kit?? I would have thought Sachs would be more expensive as its the option to go for if you want to upgrade, correct?

You're confusing the standard Sachs clutch with the Organic Sachs clutch. The latter is around £500 for the clutch alone but is rated to 330lb/ft (from memory), whereas the standard Sachs clutch has a lower torque rating.

As previous posters have said, some people get away with replacing with a standard item. As I knew I was going to keep my S3 long term, and it has been RR'd at 311lb/ft I went for the Sachs Organic to play safe.

LuK make clutches for VAG... if you want a std clutch get an LuK.... its the same part less the badge and price...

what rating would the LUK clutch be.i no its standard but there must be a rating.

Ok thanks for that.. Mines only at stage 1 with no plans to modify so standard will do!

mine stage 2 and after sorting all the problems and running correct.this has happen.mine could be close to the 300lb area. not sure till thisis sorted and on the rollers

No idea but it was coping ok with my setup until I launched one to many times which is why I went for a different plate this time around...

Its the same clutch they fit to the TDi's...

Here are my findings:

LUK cluctch kit = £178.60
LUK DMF = £328.94
LUK slave cylinder = £38.19
FTE master cylinder = £58.16

Total = £603.89!! All from euro car parts!

Have i missed anything? (apart from the labour of course!)
